DaddyCee
Hi All. Getting a strange burning smell (quite acrid) when parking the Z and switching the engine off. Nothing appears to be entering the cabin / cockpit and the smell starts a few seconds after the engine is switched off. Have checked the water, oil and brake fluid levels and they are all fine. Not noticing any oil deposits on my drive way or in the works car park. The smell is similar to one that I would expect if the engine has had a good thrashing, but I'm not driving the Z particularly hard. The mileage is nearing 45K, though a service was done around 3.5K ago. I am thinking of putting it in for a 45K service with the main stealer as the previous one was done through the garage I bought the car through. Any one have any idea of what might be the cause of the burning smell please? Cheers.
Bakes100
Plastic bag hooked on the exhaust? On my old car a tesco bag became lodged and melted onto the exhaust , really stunk. (P.S other brands of supermarket bag are available)
DaddyCee
smells more from the front of the car seems to emanate from the front grill tbh.
HassanZ
I have the same issue. When I was CS we realised half a Tesco bag had stuck and melted onto my mid-pipe. Few months on and it still bloody stinks! Do I have to live with it until the bag finally fully disintegrates?
DaddyCee
will check but think its more engine bay related.
Jimmy P
I had a similar issue with my old 3.2 TT, took it into Audi who very kindly charged me £120 for the privilege of having them remove a charred Asda bag from the exhaust
Lexx
will check but think its more engine bay related. Remember the technically your exhaust system starts in te engine bay. Plenty of hot bits for bags to stick too!
ianphampton
Just outside Northwich about a year ago I went through a load of s_ _t on the road outside a cows field and that took a month to burn off, no amount of scrubbing seemed to shift it . . . . . it was baked on the junction of the Y pipe
