brumjohn
purchased my car from a nissan dealership a little over 12 months ago (1/12/2010) It's a HR, first reg Jan 09 At the time of purchase, was little concerned that service schedule was slightly out of kilter but the car was the exact spec. i had been seeking and at least have the comfort of the 12 month dealer warranty and manufacturer warranty expiring Jan 2012. So service history is as follows; 30/10/09 10166 mls P1 24/11/10 21188mls "Nissan inspection service"? -this was when i purchased the vehicle( ) 20/09/11 29368mls P1 (as advised by dealer) Now advised a p3 is needed at 3 year anniversary (Jan 2012), expected to be circa 33000 mls Never had a vehicle serviced before within 4000 mls of last service so wondering whether i can wait till circa 36k before the P3? If i should have it done in Jan, should i get fuel filter change aswell (service checklist suggests 36k)?, does it need oil and filter change? Probably going down the route of good independant/specialist in Birmingham area rather than main dealer and will prob. source service items from Alex (inc. panel filters in advance of proposed Berks HFC's and uprev next year). Any recomendations? Think theres a thread about some guys at Coleshill Cheers guys
Lincolnbaggie
Three years service is a P1, which you've just had done only 2.5 months ago. See here viewtopic.php?f=64&t=32277 Really the dealer should have done a P2 on it before they sold it to you, so I'd check what they did for thir "inspection service" (if anything). I'd wait until 36,000 miles for the next one and then get a P3 (if you want to be completely up to the standard, although a P2 is exactly the same, just cheaper). The fuel filter is maintenance free of the 350 and doesn't need replacing. Oil and filter should be replaced as a matter of course at every service. brumjohn
cheers, thanks for the link, spot on , gives me some comfort, they were adamant it needed a p3 at 3 years or 36,000 miles, so to know its 4 years or 36,000 helps me budget for Jan. Just need to decide who to give the work to
nixy
Ah that's a useful link. My last service is overdue and when I looked in the book I got totally confused as the car is considerably older than the miles it's done - if that makes sense......... Copied that and printed it off.
rabbitstew
Mines a bit out of sync too. Mainly because in its first 4 years it only did 22k miles, So at the 4 year marker it had a P3 but it was only at 22k miles. I then bought the car and because im doing mega miles im servicing it now on miles rather than years, so i did a P1 after 9k miles @ 31k and will then be doing the P2 after another 9k miles, which will workout at 40k rather than the "5 years or 45k miles" which the book suggests. At some stage the miles & years will start to match up as im rapidly clocking the miles up. I had to smile when the OP said "comfort of the 12 month dealer warranty"..... you`ll soon realise its no comfort at all and covers very little. Its more down to the good will nature of the dealer as to whether or not they cover any problems.
tprice
dealers must be useless where you guys are from then, cause the dealer i work for fixes everything under used car warranty. engine lights, suspension knocks, electric faults etc etc except your obvious brake and tyre wear. brumjohn
My dealer experience has been a bit mixed. negotiated a price i was happy with, wheels refurbed to a reasonable standard, 2 new front tyres (re050a's) and serviced(?) before delivery. Has had 2 window regs. replaced under warranty without quibble and courtesy cars provided. on the downside, tailgate not opening properly...dealer said it was "alignment issue", not covered and £50 estimate for technician to fix. Thought i could do it myself for less and turned out to be a bent release spring, sourced from Alex aand at least saved dealers labour charge for trying the "wrong " fix. Also disappointed that at its first service the new Bridgestones were advised to be changed together with the rears after just 8000 miles due to uneven wear. Estimate for 4 new tyres and alignment £1100 my local fitters said still a bit of life in fronts, 2 452's for rear, full laser wheel alignment and a bit of change out of £300. don't think they did wheel alignment at service pre delivery hence dreadful wear in hindsight, the dealer warranty counted for nothing as the vehicle was still under manufacturer warranty
