Sam350z
Hi just become a member. I'm having missfire problems/ jumping when engine warming up. It's a 58 plate. The dealer has had it in three times and can't find what the problem is, no management light illuminated. Has anyone had this prob before, I'm thinking it could be a coil breaking down. M13KYF
take it to another dealer or preferably a good independent. Coil packs is a good place to start
Sam350z
Thanks, had the plugs changed so will try the coils.
rtbiscuit
run a treatment of BG44K through the fuel tank first, my first port of call would be the injectors, one is possibly getting blocked intermittently.
ds2000
If it is your injectors, you can also send them off to this place for professional care http://www.injectorcleaning.co.uk/
M13KYF
only happening while warming up though Rich Sam, take it down to RS Tuning in Leeds. See if they can have a look at it. They are a trader on this forum
Sam350z
Thanks, will give them a ring.
Sam350z
Had the car at RS Tuning. Still got the problem. They say that the exhaust cam is moving when it shouldn't be, don't now why. If you unplug the electrics to the cams problem goes away. Checked all the earths etc. Spoke direct to Nissan who say take it to the dealer, so I,m going to try adiffferent one. Anybody had any experience with Evans Halshaw in Leeds ?
Mark@Abbey m/s
Sam, ask on here if there is any local HR owners if they will lend you there ECU take it to RS they can load a map in the ECU to turn the NATS off ( using UPREV) and try the car with another ECU this will remove 1 possible problem. I have spoken to RS today about your car and it does seem strange that the exhaust cam is causing the problem thou , I am sure it is sortable but may take a little time to sort. Sam350z
Thanks for the information. Just been having a look on the web found an article that describes what my engine is doing. The crank position sensor could be faulty and not giving the correct information. Would it be better to try this before trying another ECU ? Jez @ H-Dev
I had this problem on one of my cars - turned out to be the crank sensor. Symptoms were intermittent misfiring, no fault codes logged. When it missed the rev counter would jump about a lot. I stuck an oscilloscope on the output to confirm a dodgy signal. Ended up just cleaning the sensor and mounting face and it was fine since. This was on an 2004 car, so VQ35DE, your 350 will have the VQ35HR engine but I'd imagine it'll use the same sensor. Sam350z
This is exactly the same problem with mine, same revs etc. Think it's time to clean / change the cam sensors. Anyone know the location on an HR engine before I attempt it ?

Jez @ H-Dev
I dont think thats the crank sensor. Theres a thread I found here - seems to bequite common: http://my350z.com/forum/vq35hr/307878-s ... up-35.html
Dblock
My DE did this when I cleaned the throttle body. Idle air relearn sorted it but it could be a different issue.
Mark@Abbey m/s
Sounds like a crank sensor issue to me as well , like it is loosing it sync between the crank/cam sensor, When the cams sensors are dis-connected the car will go into limp mode. Sam350z
Thanks Mark Do you know where the sensors are located ?
Mark@Abbey m/s
HR is on the engine/gearbox join but on the top of the engine/gearbox joint, I think it is passenger side still thou.
Sam350z
Problem solved. It wasn't the cam position sensor it would appear that the Nissan dealer has been putting the wrong oil in when servicing the car. I took my own last time, Castrol Edge 5W30 and problem has gone. It's like a new car the same as when I first bought it. They must have been putting the incorrect oil in from the first 9000 mile service. So only had to endure the problem for 72,000 miles. M13KYF
not convinced by the oil solution
Sam350z
It seems to have done the trick, done 4000 miles since last service and oil change and she's running as smooth as a nut. Hope it lasts.
