jumping350
i dont mind them but they are every where, in fact i see much more boxters on the road than zeds which is a big no no for me......but to me i hate paying extra for having a fancy badge on it (including the parts) so unless i was minted i would not get one and if i was id buy a Noble
spursmaddave
I'd swap for a cayman tomorrow I test drove a Cayman earlier this year, although I wasn't blown away with the performance compared to the Zed (it was the bigger engine but not the new 's') it was a lovely driver focused car and felt much more nimble than the Zed.... Chris`I
Porsches are rubbish. All of them. I agree. So when are you getting a GTR? Look at the end of the day, if all things being equal (age, price, etc) the Porsche is a better car. You only have to drive it to realise that. Comparing the Cayman S I had out on track to my 370z, I'd say they handle very similarly. The Cayman felt a bit more clinical which for me wasnt particularly a good thing and the interior in it seemed rather bland - although better built than the 370z. It did handle better though so you have to give it that. Given the choice I would take a Cayman S as its that bit better drive and you get the badge, but theres no way in hell I am willing to pay the premium they demand for it. rabbitstew
I had exactly the same discussion with a mate of mine when i told him i was thinking of getting a zed. He waxed lyrical about the boxster even though he had never driven one. What swung it for me however was that I see litterally hundreds of boxsters every week, mainly driven by women or middle aged men. They really are very common around my area. Those and Z4`s. I like to be a bit different and have a rarer car. Also, again, personal preference, I dont like the styling or the interior of the boxster - never have. And finally the cost. You can get a much newer zed for the same money as an older boxster. But, again boxster vs zed is just down to personal tastes really. I was looking for those on autotrader last week. Always fancied one and there arnt many about. There used to be a guy who had a blue one in my old town. Just remembered watching Jeremy Clarkson review the boxster years back. Im pretty sure he said the only reason anyone would buy one was because they cant afford a 911. And in driving one around you would effectively be saying to everyone that you hadnt done as well as you thought you would in life. Jeremy Clarkson`s words, not mine. AMT
Haven't driven a Boxster, but I know from others their nifty handling little things BUT... theres plenty about and ... they just don't look special enough (especially older ones) If you see one going by in the street look at people near it, bet none of them notice it, none. The Z is somehow not over the top but its proportions of making it look bigger and butcher make it stand out, you look at one going past no prob. Porsche... nope, fraid' not. If you want to have nothing but good handling get a Boxster, if you want that and at least a bit of recognition of a nice car... buy a Z. lol
martinmac
I wouldnt have a Boxster as there are too many around and they have more issues than the Zed. then again i love zeds.

rtbiscuit
Cost of doing work on Boxsters are scary too no more rediculous than nissan prices and any sensible person would be going to good independents not Porshe unless it was still in warranty. and with so many around 2nd parts aren't that expensive. Chris`I
I guess like any long running car, there will be good ones out there and also plenty of lemons where owners havent cared for them properly. Given their popularity compared to the Zed, I'd imagine there are a lot of lemons out there in absolute numbers, but its probably a lower percentage of the total number out there compared to the Zed. We have to remember that people in a community like this are not like the vast majority of Boxster owners when it comes to looking after cars. That probably leads to a lot of people knowing someone who has a Boxter that needed work. I'd imagine there are a lot more out there that have run flawlessly. Thank you. Alot of people on here have never owned a Porsche and dont know what the running costs are like. Parts are much much cheaper. Even new parts. I mean a hell of a lot cheaper. They are easier to work on and as said they arent much more expensive than Nissan dealer prices but indie's are a hell of alot cheaper. Only really 2 main problems which where IMS and RMS. They carry the miles much better than what the nissans do though.
jerry3167
A good friend of mine has a S reg Boxster and was charged a fortune for a couple of hours work through and independent, and Porsche were even more.
rtbiscuit
both honda and toyota parts are cheaper, but for some reason nissan seems to think they built a ferrari. but we've all known that for years, we've alwyas said only a moron goes to the dealerships for any work. and never buy parts from them unless you take plenty of lube with you. thats why people like Zmanalex has thrived supplying parts that nissan want your balls in exchange for. Thats very cheap IMO. Down here the best you can expect it £50 cash in hand "mates rates" or £50+VAT for official inderpendant work. I think the most problem with Nissan and the Zed is I beleive they ship most of the parts in from Japan. Some come from Belgium, thats where my BCM came from, but I think any engine parts will likely come from Japan. Wonder if we could get the parts from Renault if you know their part numbers for the cars that use VQ engines (Leguna and Espace are ones I seem to remember)
