jumping350
My decats just arrived they are APS ones?? not heard of them one end has no studs in it the other end has 2 out of the three studs and the same with the other pipe. Is there a bolt coming off the Y pipe or do i need another stud for each pipe??
Neilp
As far as I'm aware the end with the 3 bolts(2 already welded on) attach to the manifold. The manifold has a pre welded bolt on it. The side with the 2 attaches to the y pipe. This is the same as oem cats. APS as far as I'm led to believe are very high quality. Can I ask where you got them and what you paid? Cheers

Tarmac@TarmacSportz
I've been doing a lot of thinking about De-cats lately. I was thinking about not putting them on the website but i've decided to put them on with a note saying 'not road legal'. In the pretty unlikely event that you were pulled over for a random emissions test then it would more than likely fail which will result in a £60 fine reduced to £30 if rectified within 14 days. Nothing to really worry about there then tbh. The more important thing to worry about is your insurance, if you don't inform them you have Decats and your vehicle was inspected due to a claim of some sort then worse case scenario your insurance could be deemed invalid. The other issue is that some insurers won't insure your car because technically a decat is not road legal. I don't want to be a party pooper as lets face it its another product for me to sell but I see a lot of traders on here and other places pushing them and I don't think they give the information people should know. All I will say is be mindful.... we spend a lot of cash on these cars and it would be a bitter pill to swallow if you lost it all for the sake of a pair of Decats
jumping350
Great post from a trader and i was never imagining of decatting mine until this came along so cheap but everyone seems to do it on here from what ive read also, im well aware of the effects of it on my car had it done to my civic then threw away the cats after two years then the emission laws changed and i cant drive it now But i guess its one of those bang for buck mods which makes it more appealing...its one of those grey areas again i think and just if your unlucky enough to have a set of circumnstances that got the cats looked at then you prob would be screwed but same can go with my mates race can on his bike and thats in your face (and in your ear) he changes it over every m.o.t and no one has batted an eyelid at him for 6 years funningly on this topic my mates insurance refused to pay when his car was broken into and he failed to tell them he had an aftermarket stereo which got nicked Everyone who buys one should definately know what there risking I've been doing a lot of thinking about De-cats lately. Tarmac@TarmacSportz
Thanks bud Like you say it is unlikely, I guess the question is... is it worth the risk ?? Thats up to the owner..
Sam Mcgoo
If you declare it to you insurance you should be fine. I'm pretty sure they are not illegal on the road, as long as it passes an emissions test at MOT time. You may get a fine if your unlucky enough to get pulled AND tested, but I have never heard of that happening to anyone. If the worst happened and you are involved in an accident, if they are declared on insurance you will be covered.

Mark@Abbey m/s
Sam, I think after 1994 if a car had a cat fitted as standard I think it is illegal to run the car without. I would need to have a look around to be 100% sure thou , spot checks are getting more common around built up area's I have heard.

My mate - an MOT inspector told me this ^^^ but he put it that "if a car is manufactured with a cat/s it must have it/them for MOT irrelevant of weather it will pass an emission test or not" This rule supposedly comes in Jan 2012
Mark@Abbey m/s
I thought this was brought in as law a long time ago.
Sam Mcgoo
Mark/Chris, Cheers for the heads up, They just keep raining on our parade eh. It will be interesting to see how insurance companies react to insuring an 'illegal' mod.

Darren-B
Unless your going FI is it really worth fitting decats? Mark are there any proven gains over high flow cats? Surely you will just lose back pressure thus mid range torque? Or can this be corrected with the Up-Rev?
jumping350
haha i only asked a question and look whats happened Why on my post !!!!! but it probably is an issue people have put in the back of their minds till now so thats a good thing. I thought i was one of the very few here who still had cats in their car??everyone seems to have berks or japspeed ones fitted! how much did your insurance increase NeilP?? That laws always been there i thought it goes the same with exhaust hangers i had custom exhaust and didnt require the use of one the hangers they said in the book it says theres a hanger there ...threfore you fail...i just welded a random bit of metal from the exhaust to the hanger just so it was in use!! If all the negatives and it reduces power and only usefull in F.I then why so much fuss over people wanting to get them??i asked what mods were best on here and 90% of replies said get berks hi flow cats or decats lol same prob with pop chargers(which i optd against)

I`m pretty sure that without a re-map, hfc`s & decats lose you mid range torque without a re-map, uprev or piggyback. Along with a pop-charger increasing inlety temps. But I`m sure Mark will be able to confirm soon.
