bennyboy
Hi there! As some of you already know, I'm looking into buying a 350Z from England (I'm in France), since they're way more affordable there... But in order to pass the homologation here in France (in order to get french licence plates), I need to contact Nissan France and ask them if the car has got a European certificate of conformity. So the question is: They need a UK VIN number to check whether the model has got a European Certificate. I'd like to try giving them a UK VIN Number (not a JDM one) to check this out. Could someone give me his VIN number so that I can check that out with the guy at Nissan's?? I need a Uk one, cause I'm sure the japanese imports don't have European Conformity. Thanks for your help , Take care, Ben
leonk
Not wanting to be un helpful but for security reasons I would have thought people on here would be reluctant to give their vin number to a complete stranger. Would you not be better contacting a Nissan dealer?
martinmac
Try asking EH370z
Zugara
I would have thought that anything coming into the UK has to have a cert.intact I believe its in one of the car manuals, which any Nissan dealer can give to you. Smells a fishy question too me.

BulletMagnet
But if you really want to know, give these guys a call, they might be able to help http://www.nissanpress.co.uk/press_site ... k_nmgb.htm
bennyboy
Hi guys, I understand your concerns about not giving away a VIN number. That's fair enough, I just wanted to check with Nissan but those guys want a UK VIN number which I don't have, cause I have't bought a car yet. No need to get paranoid here, I'm no crook trying get info for whatever purpose you can think of Btw I'm a very honest guy, so don't get me wrong when I ask questions like that. So I'm gonna buy the car anyway and then I'll see whether it's easy or not to get the car homologated here in France. The reason why I asked this question in the first place is that I've spent more than 6 months and lots of cash to get my JDM toyota Mr2 turbo homologated here in France. That was a real pain in the xxx to do, that's why now when I buy a car from England, I like to know whether I'm gonna get in trouble or not here in France. Thanks for your answers anyway. Now can I get you guys' credit card numbers and PIN number please??? It's in order to check this and that and blablablabla... I was just kidding there!!! Take care, Ben

Don't get us wrong either......we don't know you. You have no history on this forum, no-one on here is familiar with you in the slightest. Hell, I wouldnt even give my VIN number out to someone I did know. You could call a scrap yard and ask for one. Or as has already been suggested, PM "EH 370" on here as he is a Nissan Dealership. Though he is away on holiday at the moment so you may not get a quick reply.
BulletMagnet
Hence my suggestion to phone NMGB direct, surely they should know
coldel
The question got the expected answer really, no offence meant...this is definitely Nissan territory and should be done via the official channels.
bennyboy
No probs guys, I didn't take it bad, don't worry... I've called Nissan France again and I should get the reply from them very shortly I guess. The guy on the phone was cool, he's gonna check this out. So it's cool. Thanks for your replies anyway. Now one more question ( general question): How do I know I'm not buying a Japanese import instead of a Uk model? Is there a difference in the VIN numbers?? For Toyota I know the starting letters of the imports are different from the UK models (Jap imports start with SW2000-xxxxxxxx). Is it the same for the Z? Is there a difference? Cause I absolutely don't wanna get an import, I know I'm gonna spend a year getting the licences plates here in France. And I've been through that before with the MR2, I don't wanna get through this again Thanks for your reply, Ben
martinmac
The imports are generally easy to spot so post up any links and we will let you know.
Chris`I
Fairly sure the VIN number format is different for JDM too, cant remember how it differs though
Chris`I
Hmm maybe not going by this - http://courtesyparts.com/vin.php EDIT: Or maybe so - down near the bottom - http://www.xenonz33.com/Vininfo.html

bennyboy
Thanks Vik The funny thing is, I found a lot of contradictory POV's after searching a while on the web... I hope the JN vs Z33 trick works So that means that, for instance: JN1BZ36AX7M653036 is a UK model, right?? Cause that's a car which is for sale in the USA I guess US and UK VINs are very similar then. Z36 in the number, maybe for US market?? Would that mean that a Japanese VIN would be like JN1BZ33xxxxxxx ? I've got to admit that without a full Japanese VIN number I won't be able to understand how this stuff works... I'll try to find some more info on the web... Those VIN numbers are a pain in the xxx Thanks for your help anyway!
bennyboy
Hello guys! I've been doing some searching on the web about those vin numbers issues, I'm still confused. I'm using this number as an example: JN1BZ34E67M552937 (this is a car for sale in the USA). Could somebody here give me a UK and a Japanese VIN number? I know what some of you are going to say, so please remove the last 6 digits of the VIN number (put xxxxxx instead), so that you're car number is untrackable (so you see I don't need a full VIN number for an evil purpose... ) So I need a reply from one owner of a UK car, and one owner of an import. So that I can make sure I'm not buying an import when I come to UK. Please give me the start of the VIN (11 digits I guess, and just erase the last 6 ones that I don't need). Thanks for your reply, Ben. Who's definitely not a crook
BulletMagnet
Google search gave me this http://www.carkb.com/Uwe/Forum.aspx/nis ... definition I still don't understand why you can't just call NMGB (Nissan Motors Great Britain) and ask them about EU conformity (link in my previous post in this thread)

bennyboy
Thanks for your replies, Funny how hard it is to get a simple answer... Then if all cars VIN number start with "JN", I guess there is no difference between a uk model and an import, nor a US model. Well, I'm gonna have to buy a car and then I'll see in what kind of mess I'm gonna get with Nissan France when I bring the car to France. BTW I didn't try to call Nissan UK, I guess they'll reply me some bullsh..t just like Nissan France. I.E: "Buy the car and f..ck off" I thought some people would check this info out for me by watching for 5 seconds on the bottom part of their windshield, but I guess it's wayyyy too much to ask. Or some are still scared I might chase after them with a chainsaw to steal their 350Z with only the first digits of their VIN. Anyway. I'll sort this out myself. But still, thanks to all of those who tried to give a constructive reply. See ya
BulletMagnet
Well for the cost of a single phone call you could have tried calling Nissan UK, at least you would have known for sure if they'd tell you to eff off. Did you ever PM EH370 on here? He is apparently a Nissan dealer after all.
