Mega
am not being funny mate but i seen a program on bbc 1 called rouge traders recon engines are not worth it. if you ring nissan and price the engine parts up you will see the difference in the price and then it makes you think how can a company sell it for £2000. if i was you i would buy a second hand one save the hassle and agro involved with recons. Well. You break cars. Can you not quote stu happy for an engine? 1000 supplied sounds like a good way to introduce yourself to the forum :)

Saying recon engines are not worth it because the BBC says all breakers are rip-off artists is a bit of a sweeping statement. There are plenty of honest breakers who'll sell the original engine as it came out of the car, and many specialists (some of them on here) who'll do reconditioned parts for pretty reasonable prices. +1 - what hassle and aggro - if there's a warranty? Also its not just cost of parts but also the time taken to source and fit said parts - that reflects £2k worth quite easily IMO
Dblock
its because they are SOOO many engine refurber's that are con artists. Ive read about many people who have been bit. Take a look on google.

andlid
would be interested to see the damage of the engine and what possible cause would be, reading that you might need a new gearbox also Id fix it up if you plan on keeping the car for a while since you do a long enough commute. Fix to sell, I wouldnt even dream going down that route. Did that on a SV650S and ended up just coming a bit short of what it cost to get a new engine and fit it... Unless it was a high ticket item such as a newer Z or something else worth more in the end.

stuRS
Wehey! Cheers Lee, I'm going to wait until you arrive with the crane before attempting to remove the blown lump, as the chains and winch I have can't lift the engine out very easily. This evening I will remove the front of the car i.e. headlights/bumper/strut/slam/rads and I'll also pull the engine wiring loom through the bulkhead as you explained Looking forward to Saturday! My Dad is going to be on hand to help out too, and hopefully keep the tea flowing. Stu
R35LEE
When you say tea you mean beer right? Ye thats cool, will also call you to talk through seperating a/c pipes, unbolting cats and clutch slave etc. I would drain the gearbox oil too so make sure you have a container to put the waste oil into The Gearbox will appreciate the new oil and a gearbox oil treatment too Will call you later mate. stuRS
Glad you've found one mate, and also glad to keep my one going a little longer! I've just come into the house after 3 hours of pottering, stumped by the a/c pipes on rad. Have already removed: Bonnet Bumper Strut plenum cover Headlights Slam latch p/s radiator washer tank rad tank Pop charger Rad, washer fluid and p/s fluid drained, but need to get those a/c pipes off so guidance there would be good. I've even labelled the bolts and bagged them up...honestly, I must be getting old. Oh, and I didn't see your post requesting the guide before I started, sorry! I found a reasonable one on google but it isn't step by step. Stu
