rabbitstew
Vittoria on the Bridge is a very nice italian restaurant - bit pricey sometimes but very nice. The "outsider" restaurant wasnt too bad - very trendy, but food wasnt as good as some. I actually like the cafe rouge just off Princes street. Ive eaten there a few times. Service is good, you always know what you are getting too.
HaydnH
Ti Amo is pretty decent on Nicholson street and very reasonable price wise. If you fancy a quick pub ish type food Aspen just down the road serves good dishes although the menu can be a little limited - we tend to rely on this place when we're there every August for the fringe. The fry up at city restaurant on the other side of the road is fairly decent as well although the sausages are a bit poor. For quick ciabattas etc Kilimanjaro is a decent cafe - great milkshakes. PickledSushi
A few of my favourite places: Absolute Thai in tollcross - try the beef panang! Piatto verde - cosy Italian in fountainbridge with great food. Kushiis diner on west nicolson st - tandoori lamb chops are amazing!
The G Man
L'escargot Bleu or Blanc, French but top quality and relatively inexpensive, I'd recommend the Flotant(sp?) for pud http://www.lescargotbleu.co.uk/, enjoy
BulletMagnet
Well, after all the suggestions, we went to The Kings Wark in Leith. And my was that a good choice. Being Sunday, I chose the Slow Braised Beef. It was heavenly, the meat just fell apart and melted in your mouth. No wonder then that this place has won awards for its food
ianphampton
In Edinburgh to pick up the 17" wheels for my winter tyres (from Greido) made a short break of it and stayed in Edinburgh for the weekend. We went to L'Escargot Bleu last night (19th November) and it was really, REALLY excellent. Food, atmosphere, service - all definitely 1st class. (and all thanks to the recommendation from here!)
