Zclub Kiwi meet

We had a Zclub rally Saturday. Really pleased as my co-pilot was a complete novice (nothing to do with car club) and did extremely well. Anyway, with a novice co-pilot we came second. Only reason I think we got second was my average speed was 4kms slower than I anticipated. Which is my doing. The same good friend is going to co-pilot for me next time. Much easier when you've teamed up with someone before you know how the other works, and get the flow going even better. Hopefully 1st next month's rally.

Was fun, as there were two stages, similar to our big Targa Rally here (hundreds of all sorts of cars compete - closed road rally race). First stage, they nominate your average speed, everyone is given the same average speed - was 2kms off that (you don't know what it is though at the beginning). You have questions to find answers for, and instructions to find fantastic roads!!!! Then we got to the end of the stage at our major race way in Auckland, Pukekohe Race Way, and are given the second lot of instructions and questions and then you have to nominate your own average speed. Quite surprising how it averages out, if you go through 50km areas and 100kms areas.

Was pleased with our second place, as my novice co-pilot, had never done anything like this before. (Usually get 1st, but my average speed was 4kms under my estimate. So my fault). My co-pilot loves cars, but never had any exposure to car clubs or anything like that. Anyway, he did extremely well, had the map out referring to it and checking against the instructions, so I could hair on, and have warning before our next turn, even managed to negotiate a road detour for road works whilst the other cars sat at the side of the road looking confused. So having started last, we didn't arrive at the end last. :yahoo:

My co-pilot is competent enough that he could learn to professionally co-pilot. I'm quite lucky as I have two good mates in the club that I can and do call on to co-pilot both having been professional rally co-pilots for quite a few years, one on an international basis.

Poor co-pilot nearly lost his breakfast over a few fast dippy bits of road though, :p:lol: so I had to button off a bit after that.

Pictures are taken at our end point for lunch at Castaways, a restaurant on the very wild West Coast, most southern end of the city.

They're always a lot of fun Martin, you guys should definitely set up something like this.:thumbs:

The reason they put questions to find answers for is to keep people's speeds down, but it adds to the noggin power required and keeps your co-pilot entertained an very busy on the day, which is a good thing. Keeps you sharp as a pin.:thumbs: There are ways of making it a bit more interesting too. So anyone that wants to set up a trial/rally like this, just let me know and I'll fill you in on the fun/evil tricks we play on our club mates.

Depending on who's organised the rally, sometimes we'll work on race tulips, or rally style notes, plus a few other different style of rally notes.

Here's a few pics, now that I've downloaded some.
