ThomasSoerensen
Just got rear ended on the autobahn by a Herrn Schuhmacher. Destroyed the rear bumper, trunk lid and pushed the exhaust 5 cm in. I feel ok though. I was breaking hard for an Autobahn queue. I guess i have better brakes/reactions than him. Muppet.
Ebized
Bad driving must run with the Schumacher name As David Coulthard knows all too well from Spa. Sorry to see that and hope the insurance covers everything OK. Glad you are OK.
Mega
Rear quarters look OK so shouldn't be too much trouble getting insurance to cover it which is the positive Glad it wasn't too serious...
DoogyRev
Glad your ok As colin says I am sure the insurance will sort it all out
ThomasSoerensen
Hi I expect Mr. Schuhmackers insurance will cover everything as I don't see how I could be at fault. My only worry is the time it will take to sort out the car. Since the exhaust is pushed in I suspect it is bent and might have to be replaced. That means Novidem has to build one and send it. And Strosek has to send another bumper that has to be painted before fitting. This could take ages. But at leas the insurance will cover a rental. Who has a 370Z as a rental? Wasso
Sorry to hear that mate and I'm sure Bennett who's at the ring this weekend will be gutted for you too. BulletMagnet
Sorry to hear Thomas. I blame the traffic for the long weekend in Germany right now. Heard on SWR3 today how somebody was stuck in the same spot for three hours! I hope traffic returns to normal come Tuesday. And before you ask, no the Zed is in the UK cos I flew over to visit my GF (wish I had tho...)

ThomasSoerensen
Oh bugger. I guess it was harder than I hoped. Just got this from the mechanic ----------------------------- Hello Thomas, after lifting up your car we saw that some of the rear bodystructure is damaged quite a lot. I decided to get a 'Gutachter' (independent appraiser) to have that inspected properly. The costs are covered by the insurance. As soon as I have the results I will inform you. Hillheaddemon
Hi Thomas, Sorry to read / see the damage, at least you're okay. Same thing happened to me a year ago. Rear-ended and more damage was done beneath the body work. Garage brought in a Gutachter as well. Needed new rear bumper strut (the structual bit), new exhaust system (albeit I just have the standard) and bodywork - basically replaced my bum. Their insurance covered the lot and it took the garage about a week to sort it all out - inspection to getting fully fixed car back. Hope it works out well for yours too. ThomasSoerensen
Hi all I was told by the mechanic, MS, that the rear crash bar and the mountings of it has taken a lot of damage and that is why the apprisor was needed. They are now working out if the car is repairable or not. The way it works here in Germany is that if the cost of the repair is less than 100% of the value of the car then it is deemed repairable. But there is an exception for "special" cars, that apply to my car due to the super charger kit, that allows the value of the repair to go up to 130% of the value of the car and they still deem it repairable. I have emailed the garage all documentation regarding the super charger kit as it costs approx. 20.000 EUR. So hopefully this will make it clear that the car should be repaired. In the mean time I will today receive a rental car for the time untill I get my car back, and I was promised the rental is in the BMW 5 series and Audi A6 class, it will be fun to see how I loke a big soft cruzer. Mega
German insurance seems to actually be worthwhile, unlike the UK. Here it's written off if over 50% cost, and there's no discussion to be had. Furthermore the mere presence of an SC would mean they spent an additional 7 days trying to find an undeclared lug nut somewhere on the vehicle so that they could refuse to pay out at all. Hopefully you get a good resolution to your situation.
