hi everyone - a different 350z powered owner !

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

An unusual 350z owner to say the least :)

I'm fortunate to drive Project zed - a 350z powered drag car that myself & Abbey Motorsport have had a fantastic 2011 with.

Lots of details can be found here http://www.bramsracing.com

Has been a stunning year with Project Zed & a great way to finish 2011 off with our biggest mph to date first run & then our last run being our fastest ever run.

Have not got enough superlatives for Abbey Motorsport & the Brams Racing crew - huge move forward from our best of 7.3 in 2010 to what has been an incredible 2011 with Sixes at every single event & a best time of 6.63.

More to come for sure next year but for now a well earned rest for us all

Welcome!

so... how much of that car is an original zed :)

Looks very scary to drive. I can only imagine how it feels to have a couple of thousand lbs/ft of torque molest your internal organs on that launch lol.

How does the gearbox work in that thing?

They are normally a kind of sequential gearbox. Usually with 3 or 4 gears.

Awesome car and a good time. A friend has a fully street legal, MOT`d, subaru imprezza built in his garden shed which does the 1/4 mile in 9.47 seconds, but its amazing how much extra work, power and money you need to get from 9.47 to 6.63.

Welcome

Neil, I recall from seeing the car at Abbey last year and having a look round. Parts that looked Zed like or were original is very minimal. The door handles are still original and of course the engine casing. But apart from that I struggled to find anything else

I seem to remember the rear lights were orignal when I saw it at Autosport - I might be mistake though.

John's got some great in car footage that really gives you an idea of the ferociousness of that car! Also check out http://www.youtube.com/user/BramsRacingTV

Wasso this is a Pro Class dragster for use in, among other classes, the Japanese Drag Series.

The rules of the class are that the car must have an engine block and cylinder head from a japanese production car. It must not have more than 6 cylinders and must retain the original valve train design.Project Zed fills this criteria.

If you wanted to race a zee with a standard body etc you would race in the Street or Factory Modified class.

There is considerably more standard parts in the engine of the Zed than you have intimated and of course what that means is that the R&D going into the delevopment of these motors on towards 2000 hp inevitably carries on towards the work done by Abbey Motorsport on customer cars, either standard or modified.

Also the technicians that work on the drag car are the same people that work on customer cars and will move forward with the cutting edge technology that is used on this car

hiya guys & many thanks for the welcome :)

Comments really as per what mark has said - very much 350z powered.

Yes of course the internals are heavily modified but thats no surprise when we are pushing to get over 2000 bhp :teeth:

An amazing season this year with 6's at every single event & now only 0.25 secs away from the fastest japanese car in the world (2JZ powered Celica in Australia).

We will push as hard as we can next year to close that gap down & about time a Nissan powered car ruled the roost

Not sure if i can get any pictures up on here yet due to my low post count ? - will try now anyway

Would be great to see more 350z owners down at the pod in 2012 :)
