AFTERSHOX
I'm considering two different Head Units to replace my BOSE toasted sandwich maker in the Z. Long story, but this is cheapest way to get a Rear Parking Camera; I've been researching using the BirdView NAV Screen, but the choices are very limited - so it's a replacement HU that I'm going for. I'm torn between the following two units.... Please vote in the POLL - thanks. Comments also welcome. I know plenty folks have the Pioneer; but I'm slightly favouring the Kenwood. Both are similar price. Cheers
TomS
Considered the JVC 740 or 840? Just installed an 840 and it's been perfect so far. Car Audio Centre price matched it on Amazon so it was only £330 + £8 delivery.

bazmcc
Maybe a bit late but +1 on the 840! Had it in for a few weeks now and VERY happy with it. Rear USB not a problem for me as I have thw wire feeding into my cubby box above the unit - easy access for USB drive or for iPod to plug straight into Only downside I've found is not being able to copy my phonebook from iPhone to head unit, but that's a problem with Apple, not the HU! taffyjason
does it have a dimming function for night driving? i had a kenwood HU once, at night it blinded me!
bazmcc
I'm sure you can dim it, but I have mine set to blackout after a 10 seconds. There's all sorts of screensaver options in the settings. I've never had any problems with brightness/glare at night
spursmaddave
+ another 1 for the JVC 840, just fitted one.... Which means there is a very reasonably priced Pioneer Avic unit in the for sale section
rhys1344
Does anyone have any pictures of the JVC 840 installed? I want to see how it fits in with the centre console... I'm after a nice double DIN unit too
rhys1344
Hi guys, anyone have any pictures of the JVC 840 installed? I want to get a new head unit.. funnily enough, the three posed here are what I have been considering!! Also is it much extra for the reverse camera? and is the bluetooth phone capability included?? bazmcc
Bluetooth is included and works well. Only downside for me is I can't copy my iPhone contacts list to the HU (which can hold 400 contacts I think) but that's an Apple problem, not the HU's. All other phones will allow you to copy over your contact list. I didn't price reverse camera, but I've seen it used with the HU and seems good. spursmaddave
Transferring contacts with an iPhone4 works fine on a JVC AVX840 here is a pic of it installed in a Zed I didn't like it sticking out too far and will never use it for CDs or DVDs so i adapted the cage so it fitted flushed, obviously now will not open... Reverse camera £20 off ebay, the type that fits in above the number plate in the light fitting
rhys1344
cheers guys.. that looks sweet, JVC should hire you lot as sales reps!! I think ima get one soon, may wait for january sales first though... cant find cheaper than £
bazmcc
Good luck with it mate. You'll also have to add the wiring loom and steering wheel controls adaptor which is another £30-£40. Let us know when you get on when you get around to buying one
spursmaddave
Yeah mine was that price, and yeah you will need loom, fascia, steering adapter and iPod cable
