martinmac Posted September 15, 2011 Share Posted September 15, 2011 This infuriates me. I take tablets for blood pressure. All fine and they work well so no problem there. My last prescription renewal had a note on it that I had to have a fasting blood test before my next prescription was issued. My leave pattern is a bit random at the moment so I call to make an appointment. The next available is 26th September when I am at work. They are short staffed and it has to be a doctor that does it as they dont have a nurse. Thats stupid enough in itself. The GP has admitted that they do it as a money earner which is why they are so busy. So the next available appointment is 10th October when I am holiday, the first one for ages. The next one would be 17th October as they only do it on NMonday and Wednesday mornings. She doesnt want to renew my prescription so it will be a month wthout the tablets. I have just had a full medical with another doctor which was fine. The same doctor allows a mate in Spain to have his tablets when he isnt even in the country. My blood pressure has just got up. martinmac Posted September 15, 2011 Author Share Posted September 15, 2011 I am seriously considering a change of GP. This is also the one who made a balls up and told me I had cancer a while back. She was wrong thankfully. Its a practice in a town full of elderly people so lots of testing is done. The GP wont even accept the results from my medical done by a GP she knows. For 9 months hes been telling me theres nothing wrong with my ankle & its still recovering from a sprain. In the summer I suffer with hay fever, in very extreme cases I get a bit wheezy, and need an inhaler. If I use this thing twice a year I would be surprised. Anyway a couple of years ago, the inhaler I had was out of date, so I rang up for a repeat prescription. Oh no, I had to come in for a check-up, with the nurse, because it is "So important to have an inhaler" whatever, but it will be taking me out of work. "No, you need to come in, it wouldn't take long" So went in, my appointment time was in arrears by 20 minutes. Finally got to see the nurse, who again told how important this all was, and it would take long. Very long story short, I was in there for an hour and a half, and had all sorts of tests done, and I was even given a book to fill in every time I had to use it! as it is "vital that I am NEVER without my inhaler" Finally got out of there with a prescription, so I went to the counter at the doctors to pick it up, only to be told that they didn’t have it and I would have to go to another chemist. Got to the chemist, and it was shut. When back to the doctors as it is "vital that I am NEVER without my inhaler" Guess what - they were shut. Mrzed Posted September 15, 2011 Share Posted September 15, 2011 Don't they just tick you off, got the same issue, high blood pressure due to a congenital heart condition I was born with and didn't find out about untill I was 43 and having a medical for emigration. BTW got the papers after full examination with physical health classified as A1. Not an issue, but get the same old irritation, blood test, I can go anywhere, three local hospitals or another surgery but that ain't the issue. I suffer with "WHITE COAT SYNDROME" which means hospitals, doctors surgery's, ambulances and especially doctors make me so anxious I could run a mile and therefore by disposition creates high BP reading so they kindly let me do mine at home and send em in. Saves grabbing the doctor by the throat and swinging him around. But blood tests I avoid and after a certain amount of avoidance asked the doctor if it was a legal requirement..afterall my arm, my blood and my permission at which point they gave me a disclaimer form to sign which absolves them from liability for the 12 months at a time as I consider that I feel great and have no issue...which I don't. Suits me. The more they dig the more they will find wrong with you and if it's so so important why don't they force every single one of us in the country to have these tests and then they can label us all can't they. Up untill the emigration medical I hadn't seen a doctor for any sort illness other than chicken pox since I was fifteen years of age and that was for a jab to go abroad. Then all of a sudden they are interested because they can peddle me some drugs and get bags of cash from the government and the pharmaceutical guys. Seriously you may think what are you whining about but what results would we get if the whole nation was forced to have a full spectrum bloodtest???? Why am I so special?? Excuse the rant... I can let a dentist rip out teeth and do root canal work all day and it doesnt bother me. Doctors make my BP go through the roof. My record was around 212/140 from memory. Doctors make my BP go through the roof. My record was around 212/140 from memory. That was with a knackered back though. Went this morning for my quarterly blood test no problem, needed a tube of cream or my foot..............Last one I had was 2008 so can't have it again without seeing the Doc. sparky370z Posted September 15, 2011 Share Posted September 15, 2011 holy crap, dont get me started on GPs oh go on then.............. well, i went to see my GP with severe back pain in late 2009. after a VERY quick examination he said it was muscular. and to take some painkillers and ibuprofen. went back to see him 2 weeks later with the same pain. i asked for an xray but he said that it would cost too much if he referred me, and that if i wanted it i should go to the A+E. went back again because the the pain had got worse but the only person i could see was a nurse. well, she was useless and read the note again gave me a VERY quick exam and thats it, muscular pain. i asked to be referred for an MRI but she said "oh no, that costs us about 600 pounds if we refer you" I saw a physio, chiropractor, and and osteopath. this pain went on for about a year. pain still no better but no-one would actually pay out for me to get a scan or xray. anyways..... turns out i had a broken back that was pushing my spinal chord due to cancer. go figure eh? i have changed practice now and i am in the process of dragging them over hot coals with whoever will listen to me. I changed doctors after mine filed my neck X-ray, which I had desperately been waiting for, as it was clear and he hadn't told me - this was to see if I had arthritis in my spine after cracking a vertebrae in my neck and getting whiplash and tearing ligaments in my neck and shoulders 7 years before, which I only found about a week after my accident because the hospital refused to X-ray me initially and just gave me painkillers!
