rothers2901
Hi all, I'm looking to do my first track day at cadwell Park in September but know absolutely nothing about them . Any seasoned trackers out there who can give me a run down on what is required. Helmets, Insurance etc:
Keyser
Each track has its own rules so check on there website - Normal - Helmet (some tracks you can rent them) Driving license (never been asked for it though) Long sleeve shirt and trousers (or a race (romper) suit) Insurance - Normal road insurance won't cover you, track day insurance is available (at a premium) but not (in my experience) normally required. Usually you show up early, sign in have a noise test and a saftey brief. Castle Combe has groups depending on experience and type of car. Thats it go out have fun Other Advice - Drive fast Don't Crash
brillomaster
Watch out for the agressive drivers. Depending on the trackday some organisers are better than others when it comes to dangerous driving. Rules for overtaking are usually only on the left, only on straights, and only with the person being overtaken giving consent really. If anyone tries to out brake someone into a corner they will be black flagged. if someone is being a knob, have a quiet word with an organiser if they persist. Cadwell park has a few good overtaking points, you'll probably overtake quite a few things on the park straight. if on the other hand you find you're holding up other drivers (unlikely to happen to much in a zed) but dont get stressed out and try and move over too quickly - hold your line through the corners, and then indicate right on a straight to let them past. other things to note, the track dries at different rates - out in the faster open bits the track can be nice and dry, but under the trees can still stay slippery quite a lot longer. errm, anything else? Probably only do 5or6 laps at a time, its quite a long track and you dont want to overheat. Always do a cool down lap in top gear, to get some air to the brakes and they'll last a lot longer. and when you get back to the pits, don't put the handbrake on otherwise the pads will stick to the discs. Check the levels of coolant, brake fluid, oil and tyre pressures throughout the day. So much knowledge to impart! other obvious stuff, dont try and turn in whilst still on the brakes as the weight transfer will make the back endvery light and more liable to spin,, and if you're not heel and toeing on the downshifts, watch out for bringing the clutch in as you're turning. My mate shifted from 4th to 2nd for a tight corner and locked the rear wheels, causing a spin! Anyways, stay safe and drive within your limits and you'll have the best day ever! Track driving is immensely good fun
AK350Z
Here's my experience of an MSV day at cadwell in the Zed: http://www.350z-uk.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=36&t=46957&hilit=+cadwell If you're averagely enthusiastic, you'll probably only manage about half a dozen laps on standard discs and pads, so allow plenty of cooldown time. If you have or can get some uprated pads beforehand, do so. Other than what the other guys said, build up speed slowly and have fun, Cadwell is a fantastic track.
