slimjim Posted August 18, 2011 Posted August 18, 2011 Friend of mine is looking at one and I wondered if anyone here thought they were worth the hassle or not? Famous for being unreliable... But I thought the new ones were better now? Anyone owned one? Have any comments on them? Cheers guys... Quote
lrh Posted August 18, 2011 Posted August 18, 2011 A colleague has the 2.4 diesel. Costs him about £2k a year in repairs. Recently the handbrake failed and it ended up in a neighbours back garden Quote
AK350Z Posted August 18, 2011 Posted August 18, 2011 Depending on the price point, why get a diesel? The 2 litre (and GTA V6 ) are much nicer to drive. Most recent Alpha I had was a 146, so a bit old. Quote
slimjim Posted August 18, 2011 Author Posted August 18, 2011 He has seen one for £3k and he is doing LOTS of miles a year at the moment... hence then need for a diesel. 45k motorway miles in 2 years! But then again, what use is a diesel if it is always breaking? (Alfa) Quote
AK350Z Posted August 18, 2011 Posted August 18, 2011 Well the 1.9jtdm that i have in the Grande Punto is a GM unit, so i would expect the larger units probably are too you know. If you go to an indie for servicing, the bits aren't too expensive. Quote
docwra Posted August 18, 2011 Posted August 18, 2011 Business partner had the 1.9, beautiful car to look at and be in and good to drive as well. He had some very minor electrical issues in 3 years ownership, other than that it was pretty faultless. Surprisingly Having driven the 2.4 Id definitely be looking at that, it even sounds like an Alfa, the only thing Id knock on them is there ismt much room, its a bit small for a proper family saloon.
