alfawookie
cat back exhaust to my insurance company (Privilege) im now paying an extra £304 a year & my excess has shot up to £700!!!! They wanted to know how much gain the exhuast gives, i had no idea as car had this exhaust on when i bought it 3 weeks ago,so settled on 10%!!! Im now looking to see how much a standard cat back exhaust costs & selling the Miltek one,any ideas on standard exhaust price?
marzman
Shiiiit!! Call them up and tell them you've taken it off All my mods are declared, at no additional cost with admiral.
Chris`I
10% gain - you realise thats 30HP! Tell them its a OEM replacement, no performance gains at all. Thats a bit shocking really, all Admiral ever charge me for mods is the £20 admin fee
Lexx
Unless your car has had a remap, then you're car has gained NO extra BHP by fitting an exhaust. The Zed has an intelligent ECU which rains the ponies back to OEM levels.
TomS
Admiral increased my insurance for exhaust, lowered and plenum spacer! They wanted a few hundred quid more for wheels so I've got stock for now.
Neilp
fookin hell!!! Admiral added all my stuff on for nothing except the admin fee and im only 23. Declared my exhaust, decats and breathing apparatus and only paid 12 quid
Lexx
The key phrase to use is "Non-Performance enhancing"
Neilp
The key phrase to use is "Non-Performance enhancing" i declared all mods etc and gave them rolling road figure and it was 305 so less than 3% power increase over standard figure and they never bothered with any increase in premium
TADDY
fookin hell!!! Admiral added all my stuff on for nothing except the admin fee and im only 23. Declared my exhaust, decats and breathing apparatus and only paid 12 quid you declared your decats? did you refer to them as race cats? OP think about changing your insurance company rather than the exhaust cuz thats just rediculous, speak to sky insurance for a start, i saved £600 on my isurance with them and that was with more mods
Rubber
Some companies don't want to deal with modified cars. If you declare mods then they will up the price to make it uncompetitive. Best off going with someone else in that case...
Wasso
Agree with Lexx On this unless it's mapped you'll get no extra bhp and you'll never get 30bhp from the exhaust alone. Unless it was aided by FI. Tell them you e made a mistake and the exhaust is a direct replacement and just looks real nice!

Thanks for the replies, i have just told them there is no power gain as its just a direct replacment & they are gonna add an extra £24 as they say people who change there exhuasts are more likely to crash..........their exact words!!!!! So am gonna compare insurance companies & leave this one asap!!!

coldel
When I was looking online at Admiral etc there seemed to be a limit on the BHP increase, I tested a few scenarios where the BHP increase was below or above something like 5% and the price just catapulted through the roof. It seems small gains are ok, larger ones not so. I stuck a set of Volks alloys on the car which cost me £35 a year more.
alfawookie
Well it looks like Privilege are still the cheapest so will have to look into putting an original Nissan 350Z cat back exhaust back on the car & sell the Miltek one
Wasso
Tell them the exhaust won't increase your chances of crashing, that's purely governed by the driver. Tell them you want to speak with their most senior staff member. If exhausts make you crash what does NOS do, increase the chance of drug taking and murders. I'm running 309 to the hubs which is about 60+ hp. A gain of 23% I think. I've got ALL my mods including bodykit declared that's like £8k's worth and my insurance with Adrian Flux is £1k a year. I have 8years no claims, no points, aged 37 and live in wonderful high risk Birmingham. Speak with a specialist company such as sky or Adrian flux. Don't whatever you do trade off the Miltek, you will get a better quote.

Zugara
The key phrase to use is "Non-Performance enhancing" Maybe so, but this insurance company don't give a damm, I am with them also, if its NON-standard, its a performance gain. They wanted an extra £450 for my HKS zorst. Yeah right, see ya.
