DaddyCee
Hi All. Just a mate run a paint thickness test and it seems to be pretty thin ranging from 75 - 147 microns depending on where the meter was placed on the car i.e. doors, bonnet, wings etc. Does that sound about correct? Is the paint on the 350Z very thin? Cheers,
Stew
Yep, I've had mine done a few times and it's pretty thin. Never had souble digits though... Mine were all in the hundreds.
AK350Z
Maybe it's been corrected before?
Ricey
The paint like many jap motors is pretty thin in general I think........hence the front bumper getting road rashed to hell.
martinmac
My lowest reading was 62, ex demo car.
Iwantone
All of those measurements seen damn thin to me, eg, 67 microns = approx 2.5 thousandths of an inch. A sheet of 80 gsm A4 paper is 4 thou thick (100 microns) Then again, there is a lot more to think about than paint thickness. A big factor is the surface that the paint is actually applied to. We run 2 different automated paint plants, one is electrophoretic and the other is powder. We have to measure many things, eg, hardness, adhesion, chemical resistance, cure and colour. I get involved in the painting process as little as possible. Steve
Chesterfield
Yep - notouriously thin on the Z (indeed Nissans in General). Readings vary considerably too (in % terms), around the car. My lowest is about 120 and highest around 170 iirc. Dont make a habbit of machine polishing the car, and if you do, make sure its done by a pro, as burning through the paint on the Z is VERY easy. Clarkie
i had a reading of 430 on my car today however i fear that a respray was the culprit. Rest of the car read from 90-120ish

DaddyCee
so the only way to improve the figures is a total respray?
