Vik54
Do what I do, go to "inprivate browsing" and watch youporn, when the site is having difficulties (well I might as well say this as there are a few members who think I'm a winker ) haha +1 Yeah you're both winkers But two of my favourite winkers
Chesterfield
Are there any system event logs on the server you can take a look at, the next time people say an outage occurrs? Yes there are, and thats whats been done to identify what we believe to be the cause/s (tables locked out during busy periods) - but it relies on people telling us when the problem occured, not just that a problem is occuring. specific times is a great start, as we cn then at least look through logs at that time. Chesterfield
Actually other people had already spotted it, and were discussing it before this thread appeared. The fact people cant see this other discussion should give some clue as to where, and by whom, this was being discussed. The team are fully aware there has been a problem with the forum and we don't just think its affecting a minority. There are ways to approach the people trying to fix the problem and ways to rub them the wrong way. Throwing toys out of the pram publicly on another site accusing us of sinking like the Titanic when the world isn't revolving around them, is a sure fire way to achieve the latter. Maccaman
Interesting to see the outage happens at a time when the forum is probably quieter than in the day. I for one reported 2 outages last week but have had no instances since, though that could be due to me not being active when they happened. As I have no computer technical knowledge I certainly wouldn't consider criticising others. No doubt the admin of the site would fix any problems quickly, if they were simple to do, so it must be one of those annoying problems like we have all experienced with our cars at some time. rtbiscuit
Words are easier to understand Rich. Whats your problem while I am in the mood. i'm not saying that husky was right in what he did; but what and where he chooses to post is up to him the point i was making was that although husky posted a provocative post on another forum, no one was really an the wiser on this open forum and it could possibly have been addressed via PM, but it seemed very good ammo for some people to then post it up here. its turned what was an issue in to what is now apparently a "big" issue. we all know its the "moderators"/"Founders" forum, this just seems a very public method of trying to reinforce that. rtbiscuit
we all know its the "moderators"/"Founders" forum. News to me. by that i mean; we are all welcome to make as many suggestions as we like, they can be aired and shared, people can chat about them etc, but at the end of the day the final decisions remains with the people who run the club. i think the bluntest way to phrase it; is that this is a dictatorship not a democracy; i'm not saying it doesn't work, the forum works well, and it cuts all the bureaucracy crap out. but like i have been told by other mods in the past; if i don't like a decision then tough titties; its "our" forum so we'll do as we please and if you don't like it don't let the door hit you on the arse on the way out. and now that i've been told that i'm quiet happy to accept it, and it helps me understand things alot better on the forum. i'm still here so i'm obvioulsy happy with the status quo. :

martinmac
There are a few basic principles when we discuss suggestions. Firstly, is it possible with the software. Secondly, Is it really worth doing for the benefit of the forum and the majority of members. Thirdly, Is it going to be workable with any extra hands on involvement by the team. The decision to have to moderate the first five posts by new members is needed to reduce spam but does require a bit more hands on stuff by us. Approving for sale ads is the same. Suggestions such as the garage are discussed at length and when they are approved the software options need to ne throughly researched and tested. This does take a long time. So if anyone has an idea with merit dont think it has been forgotten just because it doesnt get done over night. The Forum suggestions are welcomed but sometimes they just arent viable. Another thing to remember is that everyone on the team has to enjoy being on here and posting in the open forum. If they dont they will walk away. The admins arent going to spend all of their free time working on software issues. Its a bit like detailing the Zed. They can take pride in the results but its still better to drive it. Bockaaarck
I'd like to put in "my two pennies worth" in here if I may. I've been fortunate in that I've rarely experienced these outages, but that may relate to my browsing and posting habits. Maybe I'm not here enough to really have become aware of the issue. If the sight's down or slow I just get on with something else and then come back to the sight and give it another go. People's interest and commitment to this sight naturally come from a multitude of angles. Whether they be from new members trying to get advice, older hands looking for modifications to enhance thier Zed or road trip routes they can exploit. We also have a large number of traders, professional and otherwise, offering their services through the forum for our consideration and our / their benefit. Then we have have the social aspect of the forum, which is a key part of it's existence and success in my view. All of these things I value, despite how little I post or get involved, it's what keeps me coming back here. It's what is important enough for me to visit this site 95% of the time before I look at any other. If there is an ongoing issue, although I've not been overly aware of it then I'll offer my help. This is the only way that I guess we'll get this issue resolved and restore the best level of service to users, traders, visitors and the like. If these issues have been occuring at a consistent time and period would it help if I am online and using the forum in as many ways as I can, keeping a log and testing whatever functionality is available? Would this help to form a more detailed picture as to the cause of the problem? It sounds like there is some sort of repeating task or service running or being used which is causing the issue. What's scheduled to run on the site servers on a consistent basis (Patching / AV updates etc)? I'd rather put my efforts in to helping everyone on this forum enjoy the experience as much as I do rather then sit on the sidelines 'waiting' for some sort of finger pointing exercise to begin. Frankly, from any view, that really isn't going to help anyone, as justified as the frustrations and annoyances may be, the best way to sort this out is roll ones sleaves up and get stuck in to fixing it I don't want people (Users, Traders, Mods or anyone) to feel this forum is not quite what it should be without at least making an effort to remind them or show them that it is 'exactly' what they thought it was when they first joined. An excellent forum, with commited members and users, all looking to get the best out of a common interest. So what do you want me to do mods?
