TomS Posted July 2, 2011 Share Posted July 2, 2011 Was bout to head out and grab a torque wrench and socket set from my favourite place, Halfords. Thought it'd be best to have a read around on all the torque levels that bolts in the engine and other places need. Thank god I did as I was just going to grab the 40-200nM one. Looking in the Service Manual it seems that a lot of the bolts that I'll be looking to get off/on only need a small amount of torque 5-20nM with bigger things such as wheel nuts needing 115nM. Looking around on these forums and others people say it's best to get 3 wrenches; low medium and high torque so that everything's pretty much covered. Are most of the bolts in the engine bay 1/4" or 1/2"? Would these two cover the majority of things and are they any good along with this socket set. If you can get one at a good price, get snap on to calibrate it (about £40 I think) and it'll serve you well for years. If it needs torqueing, use something you can trust. Ricey Posted July 2, 2011 Share Posted July 2, 2011 The hellfrauds one is really good but don't be tempted to buy a cheap one from elsewhere for the low nms. I got one from B&Q to do the plenum.........thought I'd be a good boy and test it first.........sheared the head off a bolt in the shed when set to 5nms!!!!! You get what you pay for.
