Keviswatt
Hi Wondered if anyone had experience of these cheapo double din units, wondering if its worth a punt? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/TD714-7-Car-Digital-DVD-Player-Stereo-Double-Din-/120738811198?pt=UK_Audio_TV_Electronics_In_Car_Entertainment_GPS_In_Car_Audio_Players_PP&hash=item1c1c980d3e

scottyd
I wouldn't risk it, I had a smilar motorised one and while it worked OK I ended up getting rid after a week mainly due to the sound quality being poor. The interface was also horrible.
coldel
I bought an unbranded (ie cheap for what you got) OEM looking unit before for my Astra, £380 and it had sat nav etc. It was ermmmm, okay, it did a job, the touch screen was a bit rubbish and when you went from using the ipod interface which had nice graphics on the screen to use a USB stick suddenly it switched into a DOS looking screen - effectively they are just patched up boxes with different looking interfaces depending on what function you use. That said the sat nav was top notch and everything worked, just that the interface was pretty poor.
sparky370z
Im sure that some one has just bought a very similar item. The thing is... Its a UK seller. Not from japan/china. So if you needed, just get a refund if its rubbish. It could be worth a punt really, as a branded one with similar spec you would be looking at about 700-800 quid. Only problem is how long are you looking to keep it. Might be OK for a year but after that it could degrade quickly.
DaddyCee
I had a mate who bought a unit from a so called UK seller from fleabay and he had a problem with the optical drive a few weeks after installation. When he tried to get the unit returned the UK seller said that he had to return it to a Chinese address. Fleabay were pretty crap about the whole thing and a sour taste has been left in my mates mouth over the whole debacle that he has since stopped using fleabay. Just a word of warning that what you might think is from the UK is in fact from the far east.
MidnightRacer
If you buy from a UK seller then you have the right to return it to the UK seller, even if the manufacturer is in China. I have seen similar stories with PC world and HP Products. your contract of sale is with the seller not the manufacturer. While I appreciate that eBay are usually rubbish in this case trading standards and a solicitors letter to the seller usually do the trick! back on topic, I've thought about buying one of these myself so would be interested in any feedback. spursmaddave
If you are on a budget then I would suggest you buy a double din without satnav and get a tomtom or garmin nav for when you need it. If you can't afford that then just get a good SatNav for £100 or so and make do with the bose until you can. A friend at work saw my Pioneer DD and was blown away, thought he would do it cheap and get one of these (type) of ebay, he asked me to load some software on it, it was SERIOUSLY rubbish, everything about it was cheap, buttons, mechanism, os, everything, he got a Pioneer and dumped it, lesson learnt! Karlp
The cheap double din units are of very poor build quality, I've seen some in action and graphics are very grainy and the sound is terrible. I bought a 2nd hand kenwood ddx 5022 for £150 off fleabay, then Im just going to stick a TOMTOM in my new cubby Or you can get a decent pioneer or kenwood HU with sat nav for about £350ish
