Ok I'm not there this year  But I am now living my master plan, two bottles of Pinot Noir, telly on full bung, gonna watch on and off (the off part being when I fall asleep on the couch  ), have a shower and shave around 1pm, sit and lucidly watch the final 2hrs, then tune into the Canadian GP :yahoo:

My kind of weekend B)

Nissan gears up for Le Mans 24 Hours

Posted on 08 June 2011 by Editor

GT ACADEMY winner Lucas Ordonez is going to see all of his dreams come true when he competes at Le Mans in the Signatech Nissan LMP2 car, this weekend.

‘Le Mans has been my dream since I was ten-years-old,’ said Ordonez. ’It is the most important race in the world and a very important event for my family. My father has all the yearbooks, which I used to read as a kid, never thinking I would one day be part of it. Even after winning GT Academy I never expected to get this far and I don’t think I’m really going to believe it until it happens.

‘The Test Day was an amazing experience for me; on my first lap is started to rain so it was pretty scary along the Mulsanne. After that though I enjoyed the moment, going through all those legendary corners and I can’t wait to go back there for the race.’

Nissan has created a rich history at Le Mans since its first attempt at the world-famous race in 1986 where the company entered two of its R85V prototypes.

Throughout the 80s and 90s Nissan entered a host of GT and prototypes in the 24-hour race – from the R90CK which took pole position in 1990 to the R390 GT1 that finished third overall in 1998 and finally the R391 in 1999.

Now after an eleven-year absence Nissan is back.

The Japanese manufacturer is supplying the Nissan VK45DE V8 engines to three LMP2 teams in the 2011 Le Mans 24 Hours: partner team Signatech Nissan, Greaves Motorsport and Team Oreca Matmut.

Yeah, they were advertising it all the way through the race when the ads popped up on Eurosport. Looks like the Signatech car came in 2nd in LMP2 and 9th overall, not sure how much of the driving Lucas did though.

All augers well for next years trip

Started to put a basic plan together last night with a friend, I'm hoping to organise a group trip on here for all us Z fans.

Basic outline at the moment, Wednesday Ferry/Euro Tunnel - Calais/Boulogne and travel to Le Mans, camping with Speedchills, return Monday (I'll probably stop over for the rest of the week and come back via Cherbourg/Dublin - Belfast/Troon just for the crack).

Although eating is well catered for at Speedchills camp site, the plan is we're taking a trained chef and a camper van as a "support/chuck" wagon (he's an employee of my friend and he'll be paying for his attendance, we'll have to suby up for food/drink).

It's my experience in the past, splitting the cost of a few extra camping plots provides a great area for socialising and eating when away from the track, a couple of gazeebo's and Bobs your aunty  , bring your own chairs/eating irons/plates/cups etc. This would amount to no more than a few pounds per couple for the duration depending on how many sign up. We've already got 5 couples, including myself, committed.

It would be great to see a big gaggle of Zeds, stickered up and snaking through France B) I'll be making the serious enquiries around October time and looking for commitment shortly after new year.

Costs based on previous experience will be around £250, this includes weekend passes for two and camping for two and a car, doesn't include food/drink/ferry/petrol though, it sounds a lot but it's the cheapest weekends racing ever and the cheapest week in France you'll get ;) . Don't forget this gets you access to an open pit day on the Friday and probably a garage pass to one of the teams

I hope this isn't treading on any meet organiser/mods toes, but I was dissapointed that our club didn't do an organised trip there this year, although I couldn't make it

Anyway, I'll be starting a few threads on it later in the year :teeth:
