Ricey
Husky dog as done this previously and unfortunately for him I've stolen his idea and finished it before he had chance too! Basically stripped the paint off using a wire drill wheel - really scratches the feck out of the steel so find a better way if possible - I've not been able to get all the scratches out. Then sand with 80 grit, 120, 180 (I think), 240, 400, 600, 800, 1200, 1500, 2000, autosol, white spirit, water, dry THROUGHLY (This is bare steel!) Cleaned the transport wax and crap off the end bits with Cellulose Thinners then keyed the paint with wet and dry. Sprayed end bits with panther black metallic, purple flip and finally lacquer (mask the strut off with some kitchen towel and duck tape) Here it is (see it fitted here - viewtopic.php?f=26&t=49628&start=45) ]

rog518
Looks good Would Nitrimors be any better at taking the old paint off?
Ricey
Looks good Would Nitrimors be any better at taking the old paint off? Anything would cause less damage than a wire wheel........I had to sand it through all of the stages twice because it was still so scratched after the first going over! rtbiscuit
a standard orbital would do the job well and leave no marks. but you've got a good finish and i bet your happy with the results

I am mate - would of preferred to get it perfect but I think 2 solid weeks working on tarting up under the hood is enough! Looks better than it did anyways. ChrisS
Looks good Would Nitrimors be any better at taking the old paint off? Such a busy boy matey, but worth it. Looking good. Another piece of useless info :- Rustins 'Strip It' works on cellulose paint (as well as all others).

Cheers Chris - I was on the verge of pm'ing you before to see if I could borrow a torque wrench as that B&Q piece of turd doesn't work. I opted for the handtighten with a twiddle of wrench to finish off but cheers anyway. Sounds like its similar to the one I've got - I purchased a lovely one from Halfords for £70 but it only covers 40nms to 200nms........bagged up a smaller one from B&Q for £30 and it snapped the head off a bolt on my test run in the shed (I definitely had it set right and it simply would not work).
