JDM Performance
A couple of pics of the Injen cold air intake now fitted to our car. Also fitted it with one of their 'Hydro Shields' on account of living in Scotland! Hope you like the pics. Chris
Removed
nice job, on that Hydroshield... Spill's car hydrolocked with that CAI.... Personally I've gone K&N Typhoon, liked the design better
Guest prescience
For the record, I don't think it hydrolocked - which is the pistons not being able to move due to water in the combustion chamber and bent rods as a result. He ingested water through the intake and fortunately, the motor stalled before serious damage could occur. Required quite a bit of hand-turning to get the water out and flushes before he got it back to normal again. Pete, did you have much in the way of grit when you flushed out? Any further consequences? Very nice job on the intake btw
StephenG
Sounds likely - many cases of hydrolock on the old Gen 7 Celicas were in fact water contact tripping out the MAF, resulting in the ECU shutting down the engine.
Spill
Can't say whether it was hydrolocked or not, but there was lot of water in the cylinders and at least a pint came out of the exhaust thingy outlet (the mesh bit where the exhaust joins the CATs) I think the reason it was saved was I was going so slowly and dropped the clutch when I realised what was going to happen. It definitely wasn't the MAF sensor that tripped the engine but the sensor did put up the engine check light (garage claimed it was dirty ) Grit wise I changed the oil three times over the course of a week, filter twice, and there was a fair bit of sand in there, cream froth and on the first change there was about a cup full of water. I think i was just VERY lucky, personally I wouldn't recommend anyone using that type of filter in this country, it's not worth the hassle and TBH I thought it was crap, stock is far better but a lot louder at 5000rpm Oh with the Invida.
