tariq2907
Hi My rear brake discs and pads need replacing and I'm struggling to decide what will be best. Anyone have any recommendations? I do not use the car on track so would just be for everyday road use with the occasional "spirited" driving. My local mechanic recommended ADL Bluprints which i have never heard of, he specialises in German cars and i'm not so keen to take his advice. From what I've read there seem to be three options for discs....Brembo, EBC or DBA.... and two for pads....EBC or Ferodo? I dont have a huge budget and want to get best value for money Help anybody???? cheers Tariq
James B
Avoid EBC, trust me! General consensus is that DBA are a good mid range option. Thats what I'll be switching to when my consistently shite EBC's get replaced in the next few weeks.
ZMANALEX
Well, you already know my thoughts, however, I will remind you. DBA rotors with Ferodo DS 2500 pads In stock and good to go same/next day Alex.
M13KYF
defo DBA discs although some members have noticed that ferodo pads in the rear move around a bit when reversing. A member did post that they weren't quite the same shape. Maybe ZMANALEX can shed some light

Cragus
Some EBC discs have been reported to have brake judder issues - possibly because the runout hasn't been checked properly during install. DBA seem to be highly recommended
Ekona
I wouldn't upgrade the rears alone as you'll adversely effect the braking bias of the car, so either stick with stock replacements or go for something like the DBA + DS2500 pads all round
1973safc
If your not doing trackdays go for the ebc, you'll be sound
Ekona
EBC discs are awful. They really need to spend as much cash developing their range of discs as they have into their pads, which are actually pretty good now.
1973safc
ok here's my take on ebc discs, the ring,(8.52 min lap) ebc discs mated with ds3000 pads which got the discs rather hot and i did get pad transfer, no fade, great stopping power! but im sure people have had pad transfer with other more expensive discs, short circuit,(teeside autodrome) with cheap cooling ducts, no fade and no pad transfer!! they will be fine for what you use the car for. Dblock
whats wrong with standard discs? nowt just pricey!! Sorry didnt explain myself, not standard nissan I mean just non grooved and non drilled. Mine are with ds2500 and I dont rag the hell out of my car mainly a DD with a few b roads but never have I experiance brake fade. If your a guy who hammers your car or goes on track I would get something better but if its mainly DD you do a and a b road blast is less then 10mins I think you would be fine no? James B
If your not doing trackdays go for the ebc, you'll be sound You work for or sell EBC I assume? I think enough people on here have had problems with EBC that it's not heresay anymore. You can't even measure them for runnout properly apparantly (Scott @ Abbeys words, not mine) because their slotted. All I know is I've had a right ballache with mine, something I've never had with any other brake, on any car.

They need to bring the quality of them in line with their new range of pads as somebody else stated.
tariq2907
Thanks for your help guys, has certainly given me a lot to think about..... Is it right that if I change the rear rotors and pads (and essentially upgrade them) that I must also do the fronts aswell to prevent "Brake Bias"? cheers Tariq
Beau
If you are going to upgrade I am pretty sure you are going to have to do all. Regarding pads, I have Mintex and they are well worth it. £30 for a pair, There great on the road and hardly any brake dust... Much much better than the brembo but I can not compare it with others. I would never drive my car with brake pads@ £30 quid. I simply couldn't trust them as I have always found that you only get what you pay for. Please keep us updated over long term on these pads to whether they break up like the brembo ones due to heat etc. Other members will value the feedback alot. I have only had them on for about a month and so far so good. I do however have the same brand Mintex on my Toyota Land cruiser 4x4 and they are excellent. Long life, no brake dust (hardly) and about 2-3 years out of them (45,000 or so) and I live in Milton Keynes, where there is a roundabout every half mile so braking is very heavy!
