Hi guys and girls, I'm after suggestions, We are now back to being a 1 car family (just the zed) after my company car has gone back. I am looking for an estate/4x4/people carrier/van that ticks the following boxes.

1. Very reliable

2. Large enough for 2 large dogs and able to carry large load (approx size of 8 full size suitcases)

3. Very economical at least 40mpg+

4. Something that missus wont be ashamed to drive to work every now and then (she is a finance director so wouldnt dirty big van to work)

the following are not must haves but would like

5. sporty drive (not boring, obvious choice would be volvo estate but they are just drab!!)

6. highly specced (leather, electrics etc)

I am after all this for the massive sum of around £3000

Any suggestions?

Something VAG. Octavia or Passat.

Or a Volvo. Something has to give and 40mpg in a large estate with a sporty drive for 3k...... tall order. I'd ditch the sporty drive and go luxo cruiser estate to be honest. Get all the toys and compliant suspension for a comfy ride. :)

I'm happy with that suggestion after all I've got the zed for sporty :)

A large Volvo estate would do the job nicely:

Slightly over budget but a bit of dealing should bring it close -

Personally though I'd save the dosh on the purchase price and spend it on fuel instead -

+1 on the Passat estate from me. My whole family have VW`s and if you get one with the PD engine they are mega economical and sporty. You can get 150bhp upwards on them and still get nearly 60mpg. Loads of space inside and nice solid build quality. They are also easy to work on mechanically and replacement parts are very cheap. They will easily do 500k miles. I sold my golf tdi a few months back which had 173k on it and it was still like new.
