Engine bay revamp - updated with final pics - pg 4

i wondered why it had a slight satin finish to it, its the texture of the plastic. still looks a good job though. you might find that in 12 months it might bubble or peel. (hopefully not)

if you sanded it flat and keyed the surface you can achieve a real high gloss finish, its difficult to tell from the pics as the light refelction washes the image out slightly. but from the photos they still look really good. lots of people screw painting up and its not as easy as it looks.

ricey you have earned a very rare and special award.

i award thee a Biscuit gold star of excellence

I think your right re the peeling but I've literally never sprayed anything in my life so this was a good test to see if it lay within my restricted skill set! I can always rub it back and have another crack if it starts going funny.

Its going to be hidden from the elements but it will be subject to some pretty intense heat!

I shall treasure my star :#1:

General consensus..........Hot Orange looks like a Hot Bag of Balls!.

Ford Velvet Purple and some Orange accents from my esteemed associate Tarmac bagged up!

Now all I need to do is undo all my good spraying with some sand paper!

Maybe it's worth trying some orange engine bay bolts before respraying? It might set it off by tying the paintwork in to the bits you've sprayed?

Got the Orange bolts but Carla's adamant about the purple (I think Frog Green would be better) to its Purple with Orange accents.

To be honest the piccies look good but the Orange is just all wrong against the Sunset colour.

This is Ford Velvet Purple...........Biscuit thinks it'll look like ass - I can't make my mind up.

I reckon the purple engine will look awful on a sunset - might be worth asking for a photoshop expert to help before you respray!

I kind of agree mate. I think this with Orange accents and gloss black here and there would look miles better on sunset.

black will look awesome

Black wouldn't be the main colour you sarky git!

Battery and Brake fluid covers would be green and the surrounds that they fit into gloss Black. Little bits of orange here and there (bolts etc).

I really laughed when I saw the photos of your spaying tent, did you mean to spray the table and the deck chairs in the same colour. I thought this has to be a mans spray tent.

Just a little suggestion if you do decide to spay it purple next time, do what I do, get a very large cardboard box, turn it on it's side so the open end is facing you. Spray the front bit of the object, then carefully turn the object round and spray the remaining area. If you have any problems I'll pop round ;)

That sounds like a good idea! I'm currently a broken patio umbrella and an entire patio set covered in overspray.........I swear I heard our rabbits laughing at one point. :bunny:

Eeeeeeeeek - I've just found a website thats ruined any choice of an easy decision...........pearl flip and all sorts here!

make sure you can walk before you run. candy and flip finishes aren't easy. make sure you practice on a useless item first.but if done properly you can get some awesome finishes.

make sure you prime and base coat as well as the candy, then laquer. 2k is better than 1k on this. webiste reccomends a silver base coat, but i'd be tempted to put some testers down of different colours and see what effects you get, before deciding.
