Dicky
Getting a clicking noise when travelling straight ahead but it goes off when turning either left or right. The clicking frequency matches the wheel speed, is still there when free wheeling and breaking and sounds as if a stone is caught in the tread. I’ve lifted each front wheel and there are no trapped stones and no clicking noise when spinning either wheel. The sound seems to be coming from the front offside wheel but could be the rear. Any ideas?
Ricey
Everything definitely free and clear around the brakes/caliper/little metal shieldy type things that are down that neck of the woods?
Dicky
Yep all clear and as I say no noise when I spin the wheel by hand???
ZMANALEX
Double check the clearance betwen the shield and the rotor
Dicky
Double check the clearance betwen the shield and the rotor Sorry Alex not sure what the shield and rotor are Just got back in after doing further tests at a nearby industrial estate. My daughter drove the car slowely as I walked along beside it and the clicking is definitly coming from the nearside front. My gut feeling is that its coming from the Brembo caliper? ZMANALEX
Just take the wheel off mate and using finger pressure just pull the shield slighly away from the rotor. Also check that a small stone has not got lodged in there. When the wheel is off have a look at the brake pads to make sure all the pins, clips etc are all in place. Also when car jacked up and road wheel on, give it a good shake from the 12 oclock - 6 oclock position to check for free play.
Dicky
Sad to admit that I paniced a bit and popped in to my main dealer (Vic Young South Shields -wouldnt go past them). They put the car on the ramps and took the wheel off but couldnt see anything. Dropped it back down and took it outside to test and would you believe it NO MORE CLICKING ? Cant understand it. Any way they must have been on best part of an hour and wouldnt charge anything. Cant beat that. Anyway I slipped the mechanic £20 for his trouble, well worth it to me. Thanks for all you input lads, Dicky
