slimjim
Friend of mine is looking into getting a nice Teggy... The DC2 to have a play around in. Looking at Insurance for them... he has seen a few and the JDMs are looking in better nick/price than the UK models. Without delving in too deep. Does anyone know if insuring a JDM is more than insuring UK spec? I had a JDM Delsol for a while and the insurance was slightly higher, I was told at the time it was because parts were harder to get hold of / more expensive. But I think now-a-days it is pretty easy to get JDM parts isn't it .... So, are people STILL paying a premium for JDM cars over UK? Cheers... spursmaddave
Yeah I know, but unless someone has a UK & a JDM at the same address in the same job etc etc etc..... I know when I was looking a lot of Insurers wouldn't even touch a JDM and if they did it was dearer, but then they are cheaper to buy. I would say if you are gonna do a lot of mods then maybe a JDM is the way to go as you will be getting specialised insurance anyway and you get a cheaper car to start with
slimjim
That's a good point.... Cheers Dave
BladesGrant
When I was looking for my Zed and checked out the insurance the difference was hardly anything. I think £50 difference if that to be honest. I would do what Dave has said though and just put the same details in for JDM and UK.
skyinsurance
http://www.gocompare.com http://www.confused.com http://www.moneysupermarket.com You've just recommended three places where the insurers who advertise with them will more than likely charge more for an import over a UK car. You need to speak to a specialist broker. Slimjim - my recommendation would that your friend joins http://www.itr-dc2.com and gives my company a call. We'd charge no more for an import DC2 over a UK spec, even with the extra BHP you get in a Jap DC2.
narcotix
I was originally going to buy a JDM 350Z but my insurance quotes were about £1000 more expensive compared to an equivalent UK 350Z .. In the end I spent more money on a UK Spec as I intend to keep it for a while and I'd save quite a bit every year on premiums ..

The OP wanted a comparison so I recommended comparison sites I would have recommended you but you quoted me almost twice what everyone else did
Ricey
Massive difference on our import MX5 against a UK spec to be honest. Zed barely any different though - about 50 squid.
