limby
hi all, possibly going to have a look at a Z or two this weekend, and I know one is the auto tiptronic, which I'm not particularly familiar with but quite like the idea of. can anyone answer: 1. Is the auto any slower than a manual? 2. Is the fuel economy any worse in the auto, if so by how much? 3. Anything particular to check for when test driving an auto thanks in advance. jim
hi all, possibly going to have a look at a Z or two this weekend, and I know one is the auto tiptronic, which I'm not particularly familiar with but quite like the idea of. can anyone answer: 1. Is the auto any slower than a manual? Not in my experience - I test drove both before buying the auto. The auto changes so smoothly you're not aware of it. 2. Is the fuel economy any worse in the auto, if so by how much? No. 3. Anything particular to check for when test driving an auto Put it into tiptronic mode, open the windows, switch on the power mode and give it a blast! Even with the standard exhaust, if you're not smiling then you shouldn't be considering a Z. thanks in advance.
Leenx
As Jim says very smooth! TBH I'm quite lazy and keep it in automatic for my long journeys to work! You get used to it and is so easy & effortless!
stuey
also there is no way you could manualy change gear quicker than an auto.......
live2themaxuk
true, but unless you gotta cool auto box like a VW DSG which 'gets the other gear ready for you and hands it to you when you want it', as clarkson put sit, its always gonna be abit slower as they use a viscous tranny. . . . and im not talkign about the ones in soho. . . Leenx
Jamie - I can't really compare mine to the car you mentioned but when I say the Auto is smooth - it's very smooth, and tbh I've been through enough cars in my time and I really don't miss the manual changing of gears. So much so that triptronic / automatic will be top of my wish list next time around.
