Another tyre advice!

Recommended Posts

I have 18" x 9.5 Rotas front and back.

On there at the moment are Falken 452s - 245/45/18 and 275/40/18.

They look a bit "tractor like" to my eyes.

What does anybody recommend for replacements? I'd like a lower profile but also it's daily runner which I track so comfort and performance is important.

Not asking much, eh?

It's not just the aspect ratio that affects the 'chunky' look, the make plays a part too. Most of the Falkens I've seen 'look' chunky in all sizes but the Pirelli P-Zero's I had 'looked' a lower profile than they were, in fact they almost looked stretched when they weren't, if that makes sense?

In essence, don't just look at the sizes, the brand also makes a difference imo :)

Keep them clean. Sounds daft, but tyres with proper black protection on them look a lot smaller to the eye than brown ones that are filthy. Not sure what/if/how often you put stuff on them, but for a cheap solution it'd be well worth trying that first else you're going to murder ride quality on lower profiles.

So this is what's needed:

Vredestein ULTRAC SESSANTA 245/40 ZR18 97Y XL £ 119.80 2 £ 239.60

Vredestein ULTRAC SESSANTA 225/40 ZR18 92Y XL £ 105.50 2 £ 211.00

Total amount 4 £ 450.60 inc. delivery.

Anybody know a cheaper place than http://www.mytyres.co.uk

try thr tyremen or camksills

Both a lot more expensive.

Absolutely, I ran R888s in 225/40 and 245/40 and had no issues at all. That would be about as far as I'd go though, and tbh it really doesn't make that much difference to the appearance especially on stock suspension.

Just before I press buy on the Vredstein Sessantas can I check 225/40 and 245/40 is ok given that my wheels aren't staggered and are 18 x 9.5 all round?

Thanks.

I don't think you should run a 225 tyre on a 9.5" wide wheel, it's out of spec.

Any suggestions?

I've no idea.

The rears RAYS are 9.5j and they run 245's as standard......

Thanks Sarnie.

Anybody else suggest what I need to order to keep the rolling radius ok for the TCS not to light up and give me a lower profile?

Is my current set up of 275/40 and 245/45 as good as it gets on 18's??

Just to add that I eventually went for Goodyear Eagle F1A. £540 fitted with laser alignment chucked in.

Huge step up in terms of quietness over the Falken 452s.

Seem to be very grippy and an all round improvement.

Will post full thoughts after first hot lap at Castle Combe.
