Almost service time + few other questions.

well the zed is almost due its mot and service (not until the end of next month but i want to start buying parts ready so its not a massive hit next month).

anywho im not sure which service it is due but i want to get the P3 done anyway regardless of if its due or not (just for peace of mind).

So first question is what does that involve? and what can i buy for it? and where (zmanalex/r35lee?)

also next question about a few noises and movements

1) creaking noise when driving onto a curb/speed bump - assume its suspension (hopefully just wd40  ).

2) noticed this the other day for the first time a slightly more metallicy bump (i was kind of thinking drop links but unsure what noise that makes and iv only heard in once or twice)

3) exhaust seems to vibrate on the bumper when i pull off (hoping just a bit of readjustment as it no doubt moved when those stupid flappy things that stop you entering a car park the wrong way hit it and also someones wheel trim  ).

4) gearbox/diff sounds very whirry when its cold will this be cured by a oil change or is there something wrong?

and finally 2 in 1 question.

5) handbrake doesnt hold the car very well (hoping just a tightening) but i have noticed when slowing down from 50+mph the brakes judder is this just becuase they are drilled and grooved (never had them before) or is there something wrong with them that is likely to need changing?

Thanks for your help :D

I cant help you with all of the points but regarding the handbrake, mine is crap as well my cars completely standard brake wise. I find if I park on a hill with the nose going down it does not 'bite' that well so I put it in gear.

You say your brakes are upgraded? Which brake pads are you running? I have found in the past with brake upgrades people sometimes people put too harder pad on the back, which I found was a problem when running stock calipers on the back. For example I had a MK4 Golf which had EBC redstuff pads (Racing pads I believe so they need to be proper hot before they work right) and it failed an MOT because the handbrake was not strong enough. I changed the pads for some normal OEM ones and it passed the handbrake test fine. Otherwise you can give them a clean using brake cleaner and see if that helps?

Regarding juddering brakes, I can only speak of experience again from my Golf. It had 4 pot brembos on the front with drilled and grooved disks, I found when braking softly I would get some judder through the peddle, not the steering or the car. I found it got worse when I switched to DS2500 Ferodo pads (however the braking performance was amazing), it might have been from the increased brake dust these pads produced. I found when I cleaned up the brakes it reduced the judder. Otherwise I believe warped brake disks can cause judder, so thats something to watch out for.

I would still mention these points with the garage and see what they say, TBH I go to a specialist and they check the brakes as part of a service anyway. You can always check how much meat you have left on the pads and disks yourself visually.

Hope this helps.

Re the squeaking when going over a speed hump. There are a number of explanations but one might well be the anti-roll bar drop links creaking. It may well be that you can solve this by something like WD40 or vegetable oil. Alternatively, replacing the links is relatively easy and inexpensive.

The exhaust just sounds like something has moved slightly out of place but someone more expert than me may know of a common explanation.

Hopefully someone will be along soon who can help with the other couple of points.

Thanks,

Brakes wise the fronts are ebc drilled and grooved with the yellow stuff pads i believe and the rears look like standard disks with yellow stuff pads.

wil have a look under the car later to see if i can see whats moved on the exhaust.
