Im going to get a Foxsat HDR,but spoke to Humax, and they have said i need a twin LNB on my dish, which mine does not have.

Are these easy enough to replace? Iv been told its an unplug and plug job,i know Maplin sell them.

Can it be done by me?

Easy enough, I did it on my Sky dish 3 years or so ago, just make sure someone "foots" the ladder for you

If its the standard 40 mm fit dont consider anything else other than one of these. ;)

Are these compatible with HD tv?

Yes

My one currently looks like this http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Sky-single-LNB-un ... 1888wt_907

Wont fit that i am afraid you would need to change the dish. I dont like these sky dish and lnb set-ups they are not the normal satellite standard fitments. The lnb's probably have a poor (db) noise rating compared to the technomate lnb as well. ;)

The second dish down with and lnb of your choice would be a good option and much better quality ;) (Triax TD 64)

Friend's dish was an old Sky one, and the lnb I posted above connected fine and worked straight away with the Humax Freesat box - perfect picture.

No idea what Beavis is on about :lol:

And you would be correct it will if you are a cheap skate. But sky dish's and lnb's are generally pish and have an odd fitment compared to the industry standard. And also have a poor noise rating (lower noise rating=better picture) ;) The standard normal fitment is for lnb's is a 40mm clamp fitting for people in the know like me :p:lol:

I thought most LNBs come with an adapter to fit the end of the dish "pole" and allows to mount in the 40mm collar. Mine did. No idea if its a good one or not, it was recommeneded from a place off AV forums though. Probably not super-duper, but it works, and gives signal level and quality as 100% most of the time, only dropping to 90% in snow or heavy rain occasionally.

You can get the sky mini dish fitting for use with a better quality lnb. All listed below ;) Sky one's at the top of the page better quality with the fitment lower down :) Dont forget two types of sky mini-dish adapters too ;)

I never drop below 100% quality or 100% signal in any weather chris when on 28.2 degrees east which is the orbital position for sky and freesat, but my dish is 1 metre in diameter and so is overkill when in that position but it is a full motorised system

Ah ok, so you're saying not to go for the all in one ones and go for the kind of one it appears I have where you have a seperate LNB with 40mm collar and adapter for the dish.

I only have the mini dish, so I think I do ok considering your dish is like 2x the size :p:lol:

Yes i would go for the better lnb like the technomate or the titanium (single, dual or quad) with the sky mini-dish fitments ;) Much better quality. Its probably looks 3 times bigger Chris i reckon than a standard dish :#1:

Daryl ignore me i am talking bollox just go with what the others have said

So when i buy a dual or quad LNB,do i need to get another cable (so 2 in total) to run to the Humax box (now ordered)

Yes you need 2 cables to get full functionality. It has 2 tuners, so you can record one channel and watch another, or record 2 channels and watch a recording. You can do funkier things, like having one cable and then a bridge cable to the other tuner, but that means you can only watch and record channels on the same frequency, then it starts to get really confusing. Simpler to run another cable, or better still 2 new decent cables

And get a quad LNB at least, means when you get FreeSat in other rooms you have the capacity to run new feeds to them ;)

well we live in a 2 bed semi, and have no requirement or room for another TV. Il order that Yellow LNB as twin. Is there a specific cable i need for HD,or will any old rubbish do?

You need good quality sat cable like Sat 100 iirc. Dont skimp on cheap cable either ;)
