Andy i hate to give you English lessons (especially from a foreigner... )

but "its" is is a possessive adjective for the 3rd person neutral (it)

in that phrase what is written was supposed to mean IT IS tesco, not tescos.

It's is the shortening of IT IS

back to school :p

Depending on the context 'its' can also be a possessive pronoun; I've always referred to it as 3rd person neuter rather than neutral

- and you have a repeated 'is' in your sentence :p

Thats what I was thinking, just didn't really think about the context too much.

Dorian appreciate the "neuter" comment: I didn't know it was called "neuter" as it was referred to as "neutro" when I learnt about it (in Italian)

Correct about it also being used as a pronoun. Not in this specific case though :)

And yes i repeated "is" twice for some reason

 no way Jose! :bleh:

pronouns as the name implies replace nouns.

In this case you've got Tesco (noun) just next to it!

good try, but no success :teeth:

If I didn't confuse the context why else would I have posted up Val? It's not as if I don't usually use the correct spelling (check my posts if you don't believe me) :p:p:p:p:p

That's your opinion but it's not mine

your=possessive adjective, mine=possessive pronoun

I was talking in a general context not about any particular sentence - I didn't read that far back. All I am saying is that 'its' can be a possessive pronoun as well as a possessive adjective ;)

EDIT -> Just saw your OTHER post above mate :p we are in agreement :yahoo:

London University , didnt that burn down in the Great Fire of London? :headhurt:

Now, you know I'm old :p - the London colleges are collectively referred to as the "University of London" or they were way back when; now any place can call itself a university
