SparksCW
I'm gonna sell two cars but they both have private plates which we wish to keep, can these be transferred off at the time of sale or do they need to be done in advance??
martinmac
Get in touch with DVLA, you can put them on retention and then just transfer them to another car when you want as long as the age rules are complied with.
billyokco
they need to be done in advance ive done it a few times and from experience takes about 2wks to get everything chnaged back log book mot etc. so can hold sale up if u got buyer already lined up, cost is about a £100 if i remember rightly aswell
Chesterfield
You will need to remove the plates by placing them on retention or transfering to your new vehicle prior to the sale of the car. If you sign over the V5 for the car with the private plate shown on it, then the buyer becomes the new owner of the private registration mark. You will need to complete a V317 which is for retaining or transferring a mark. You will need to do this for both your cherished plates prior to selling the car.
