Just hope the weather gets better with the hurricane they'v got near Haiti at the moment its causing the weather to be rubbish

Were staying at the Riu Palace Macao any been before? just wondering if anyones been to the hotel or resort before and how you found it and if you had any tips on what to do excursions wise, etc

Cheers for anyones reviews

Been to Bayahibe before and had a great time but in my experience of the Caribbean is owt less than 5 star can be a bit of a risk.....Cuba was chavalicious. Depending on your love of being dragged around tourist traps - choose your excursions very carefully....Thomas Cook in particular love the 'all you can eat/drink' mingfests on a Catamaran.

Tripadvisors latest reviews for your hotel are titled;

1. Worst resort ever

2. Caribbean at a fair price

3. Don't go!

4. Needs a upgrade

Trip advisor is a bit of a crock though.......depends who's doing the reviewing - snob (over critical), normal (the ones you need to pay attention too), chav (primarily concerned with getting proper 'English' food and 'branded' alchohol).

Good luck though mate - you just never know till you try it unfortunatley

Been to Dominica x2 (longtime now ;) ) not that resort. mine was toprated and i can't fault the service or hospitality  .

Very nice people and freindly. If your hol is all inclusive you will find it hard to leave the resort as everything you need is there especially if its by the sea. there are some quad/buggy rentals/ excursions and safari tours to hinterlands where you meet locals, visit waterfalls and other natural attractions, swim in rivers/picnic etc which is arranged by some companies not associated to the resorts. It is popular and worth it. It takes a whole day so plan well.

There is also a go Kart track which is not bad. cheap and usually not too full so you can try and beat my lap record if it still stands :teeth:

just take the usual precautions as when you are abroad and you will be fine.

Just don't buy a time share as i almost did :p those guys can make you sleep/dizzy with offers

enjoy your hols James :drunk:

yeah seen those buddy, but its rated as a 5star and on thomsons site last years visitors rated it 5 stars overall theres a few bad ones on there to! but plenty off good ones and suppose most people only right reviews when they'v had a bad experience.

Where we stayed last year had bad reviews in egypt and we loved it thats why i was hoping to hear some 'truth' off here

:lol: These people always make me laugh... why bother going away. I knew someone who would only book a holiday where they served English food :scare:

Shire... not been but sounds nice, so I am sure you will have a nice time  I don't go by "online" reviews much... as they are normally written by the hotel next door

The place we stayed in Cuba was the 2nd highest rated hotel in the entire area......I personally would describe it as a picturesque soviet gulag. Totally depends on who's reviewing it.

Either way its a couple of weeks off your feet catching some rays. B)

exactly some people reviewed it poorly because it took them a while to find there tour bus as it was 'tucked' away d!ckheads

Big bonus is they say the foods great (and i eat anything) with very friendly staff and its a lovely beach so even if the hotel could do with a refurb dont give a monkey really just hope the weather gets better

Most of the people that complain about 5 star resorts on trip advisor are yanks that are so far up their own arse it's untrue.

They are starting to annoy me now with their total lack of manners.

When they order stuff they use phrases like:

"I need a beer and two diet cokes", or "can I get a beer and a coke" or "I'll have the chicken with potatoes"

no "please could I have" or "I would like the xxxxx please"

how very ironic that the most materialistic and money obsessed nation on earth has not learnt that manners cost nothing yet get you lots. I'm polite to the waiters/staff take a bit of time to try and use at least some of their language and you'll be amazed how they manage to spot your face at a crowded bar ;) it pisses the yanks right off, in sure they think I'm paying the bar tenders

James, there is a trip in the Dominican where you can climb a series of small waterfalls and swim the channels in the rock that they have formed, it's a great experience !
