Rob_Quads
Well after many months of messing around I have finally finished the first stage of improving the audio in my 350z. I started off with the Bose system which is not 'that' bad for a factory setup. A few months ago I sorted out the front end and swapped out the head unit for my old Alpine - might be old but still quality. Made up some pods to house the Utopia Mid/Bass unit - The size of the magnet caused some issues and getting it in without hitting the door, window or door card was tricky I had the boot build all finished over 6 weeks ago and was just waiting for my subs to be delivered from Focal - a pair of 21V2 subs. After Focals UK Distributer screwed about for the last 6 weeks I gave up and went for a pair of Hertz subs - a fairly new company into the UK. Part of the same division of the parent company of Focal/Audison so not fairly good stuff. A Day after ordering they had arrived ready to be installed. Why can't all companies be that good. Today finished it all off. Needs a good month run-in before its properly setup but its sounding very nice. The front end is amazingly clear with a large amount of mid/bass System Alpine CDA-9833R Alpine KCA-420i iPod Adapter Audison LRX 4.300 Amplifier Focal Utopia 165W Components Hertz HX-200 8" Subs (Wired in Parallel to give a 2Ohm load) Sony HCB-700 Bluethooth Handsfree When I did the front doors I did not have a chance to sound-deaden the doors. This is my next step as the outer skins are amazingly thin. Ony good thing is that they are fairly well sealed Build Pics can also be found at http://www.convery.me.uk/Photos/My%20350z/Install%20Prep/index.html

ir_fuel
Ok dude, you ve got me SERIOUSLY jealous there The nice thing about your setup is that you hardly waste any space in your car. You can still use the boot to put stuff in it. Its great How much work was it? Would love to have the same in my car but no way i can accomplish this myself

Its great That was one of the main requirements of the install. i still wanted a large amount of the boot. I can still get my golf clubs and shoes etc without any problem. I 'could' have used the factory location but it would have been even more work.

charlied
Looks lovely and the Utopias are imo some of the best components on the market. The Hertz subs are also really impressive. Looks wicked m8 well done!!!!
Baptist
Thats the nicest install I've seen on a Zed, and the most economical use of space, well done.
ir_fuel
You should commercialize those speaker housings for the Z which you did between the "normal" speaker housings and the strut brace. Id be a potential client
AndyC
Great job mate, clearly a quality install, would love to hear it
Rob_Quads
So far its starting to sound very nice. The subs boxes require too much labour IMO to make it worth while making IMO. For a pair I would have to sell them for 100s to make it worth my while
Stew
The install is nice. The sub enclosure looks swanky.
neo
very nice m8 slightly worried tho if the Z got rear ended would the sub box jump forward somehow and smack you at the back of the head
Rob_Quads
Its screwed down as well although the chances of the moves moving forward is very slim. Only fits at a very specific angle
neo
just thought i'd mention it whats size are the subs, 10" ?
Rob_Quads
Nope they are 8's. I looked at getting a 10 in but it would have meant that the sub was sitting a fair bit further out
dr bru
and you guys should have seen the install on his old saxo looking good mate!
H5
Looks lovely and the Utopias are imo some of the best components on the market. The Hertz subs are also really impressive. Looks wicked m8 well done!!!! Have you heard them before? Four have only just started taking them in. Am looking at their Mille 3-ways for the front end. Looks very good Rob. Let me know your opinion of the subs? Am toying with going for a total brand change this time. I take it Brian and Jas have been helpful then!! Rob_Quads
Not sure who Brian and Jas are? From Four? I got them via a friend whos a dealer. The subs are a tricky one as I don't have much to compare it against as I have not heard that many 8" subs. My friend has a 8" Beryllium in his demo car which sounds awesome but costs 5 times the Hertz sub.

Yeah there is a demo car at InCarSystems 01743 232317 full of Hertz stuff. I've heard a box in Jas' (Hertz rep) Escort estate and was really impressed by its ability! And yet again Rob Quads your install is wicked! Can't wait to hear it sometime!

That's why I'm intrigued. They look nicely built and come wwith some nice comments. Focal Beryllium stuff is well expensive and not sure it's often that many times better than other kit! Rob_Quads
No was not dealing direct although did get a very good price on them I know what you mean about the Beryllium stuff but I would say the 8" they do is very very good. The clarity of the bass is stunning and its not short of volume too. At least its available unlike the lesser 8" which BBG kept screwing around trying to get.
