relentless
hi all, The passenger side low beam isnt working on my 53 JDM Ive tried changing the bulb and changing the fuse but still no good. Now i thought this was odd - the bulb were both getting hot/warm but still not coming on (maybe the wrong polarity causing this?) Anyone ideas? Cheers Mark
Stew
Does the car have HID lights or standard bulbs? If HID I'd suggest it could be the box of tricks attached to the underside of the light unit.
relentless
the low beam is standard as far as i know. just 2 wires going straight into it. The high beam has a silver box on the back of it so im guessing thats xenon? it looks like this:
Zugara
Have you checked for any relays that might be in the circuit?
relentless
errr, how would i do that? Do you know if theres polarity on the bulb? The "old" bulb has a creamy coloured mark in it btw...almost like its overheated or something. The filament is intact.
Zugara
Do you have a Multimeter? If so you could check bulb for continuity.. or attach a battery and see if it lights up. I would assume the creamy colour is right near the filament? If so it would be the heat of the filament on the internal glass surface causing it. I would think that there is a relay somewhere in the fuse housing, yo uwould need to check the owners manual to see where they are located. ARE you SURE the fuse is ok? Husky
the bulb in the picture above is actually your high beam and the one with the silver box on the back is your dipped beam as mentioned, check the fuse first. but as you point out the bulb has a look to it of being blown, if that's so you may well need a new HID bulb. Also the problem could lie with the ballast which is attached to the underneath of the unit. check & replace: fuse bulb ballast in that order
rtbiscuit
my money is on the ballast, which i just so happen to have a spare one of water can get in to them and then they die.
Stew
For a test - remove the ballast and put it in the airing cupboard for a couple of days. Refit and see if it works.....
relentless
right, its seems that i had an imbecile attack!! its actually the HID bulb that wasnt lighting up! has this blown - is the black/brown part normal? Can anyone confirm whether its a 4300k etc by the number on there? Cheers
relentless
guess im gonna have to swap bulbs to be sure - and try the drying out ballast idea also. fuse ok as i swapped it with a known working one. cheers fellas for suggestions
relentless
is it ok to connect HID bulb direct to battery to test?
Husky
no you need the ballast mate
Stew
I'd (personally) always replace bulbs in pairs. With HID though that can be pricey!
P15UL T
Hi mate If possible swap the bulb from the othe side to see if it works in the light that the current one dosnt. If it works then your other bulb is goosed. If it dosnt work the tbd power pack at the bottom of the headlight may be faulty As with stu I would recommend changing bulbs in pairs to Make sure you get the same light and colour output I also have powerpacks for sale if you need them Cheers paul
