spursmaddave
A guy I work with has had the letters from this firm, I'm not for one minute condoning downloading and filesharing but the way this form went about things was wrong on so many levels that it is nice to see them in this position. Some VERY sensitive information out there in the public domain now and hopefully a £500,000 fine and a close down for ACS. Some of the Email that have been leaked are extremely private (and therefore interesting) such as ones to his ex-wife. Obviously I am not going to post any links to but anyone who knows about torrents will be able to find out all about this in seconds. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-11418970
nicon2k
I thought this was brilliant! I feel a little bit sorry for the people on the list that they are the Innocent (Depending on your view on piracy) bystanders. The media industry needs to learn that the internet is bigger then just their movies and music. They should be working on new business models to best exploit the internet rather then trying to shoehorn it into their existing business models. The internet revolutionised the way we purchase goods but what you didn't see was retailers fighting against it. No, they adapted their models and as such have prospered (in some most cases). IMHO, the days of consumable media (Cd's and DVD's) are numbered. Take CD's for example. What is the first thing you do when you buy one? You burn it onto your PC. The only place i ever use CD's is in my car. Good work 4chan!

Apart from wii games I can't remember the last time I handled a CD. I can remember as a kid sitting with my sony radio/cassette taping the top 40 on a Sunday night, pausing it when the DJ came on with the countdown... was that so very different? BulletMagnet
I know of this, but as it's former incarnation, Davenport Lyons, before they handed it over to ACS. I myself received such a letter and found lots of holes in it, so I fought it and DL stopped chasing me. Using my IP address as proof was laughable, could have been anybody. Then they asked me for my personal passwords and I refused, because they were using criminal charges procedure in a civil charge case. So many things were just off and I turned out that i was right suspecting it was a money making scheme. It even featured on Watchdog, where an elderly couple received such a letter, claiming they downloaded hardcore gay porn. If anybody gets one of these things in the post, don't bin it, but reply to them and tell them kindly that you refuse to pay.

Vik54
yay 4chan! 4chan is paedophile heaven, you know that? Y'see Maz what these eejits don't want to accept is that for every 'consensual' legit adult 'production' there are a thousand others made that are the result of women and children being exploited
Ekona
yay 4chan! 4chan is paedophile heaven, you know that? No it's not. /b/ might be, but you can't tarnish the whole of 4chan by one section. Tbh the vast majority of the people on that list will have been stealing and deserve to cough up in court. Why people still think that downloading films/games/software that other people have worked hard to make is a mystery to me. 13 year old kids yes, grown adults no. spursmaddave
Dont wanna offend anyone here, i totally hate any form of degredation to children, its something that really makes my blood boil. Nobody mentioned it did they? The law firm have been banking on the fact that if they send an official letter to Mr Jones saying he has to cough up for downloading porn he will pay even if he didn't so that Mrs Jones won't find out, it's a scam. If anybody wants to bother reading up on the matter a lot of respectable people have been sent letters and refute the claims entirely. The guy I work with was told he downloaded the 'film' I mentioned that's true enough and obviously however he denies that to his missus she is still going to have that in the back of her mind... Ekona
Fair enough, what do you do for a living then? Assuming you're a police officer of some kind, I'd have expected you to know that there's a significant difference between the regular 4chan boards and /b/.
