ryan21
Hi, I've read the posts about the possible risks of powdercoating wheels and just wondered if there were any disadvantages of just painting the alloys?
Chris`I
The finish isnt half a tough when its wet painted. What wheels do you have? For most wheels there is no harm what so ever in having them powder coated 2 or even 3 times.
ryan21
I'm looking at buying the Varrstoen wheels from RareRims but wanted to change them to a silver colour. I was going to powdercoat them but after reading some of the threads i thought painting might be the safer option.
stanski
Standard factory alloys are just painted. There is nothing wrong with just using celly on them. If your worried get them done in 2k but you can get a good finish with just aerosol. Paint clearcoat lacquer on them to seal it in then poorvoys wax in a couple of weeks time on top and they should last.
yokomo
Alot of the silver colours will be paint only , my black chrome is so using see an issue just do as others gave said abc look after them well .
H5
The thing with just paint is brake dust and other grime can bleed into the paint itself. Generally wheels will be lacquered / polished in some way and probably baked to prevent this happening. So beware of a cheap refurb / paint as it may not last as long as you hope.... Airro
i had my gt4 wheels powdercoated (same wheel described in the thread) and mine aint cracked i read the thread, took my chances and still rolling on 4 wheels im guessing it is possible powdercoating can crack the wheels, but is rare....or it's rare it hasnt cracked mine! lol
rtbiscuit
powder coating is a better finish its tougher than just a paint finish. all will be fine as long as they don't bake the wheels above a temperature of about 210 degrees celcius. alessandro
Defenetly powder coated, and if you curb them can be easily fixed without the nedd to re furb them
