Question for the vinyl Wrappers

If you were thinking about putting a bodykit on your car but at the same time you were thinking about having your car Vinly wrapped, would you bother taking the kit into the bodyshop for spraying or would you just wrap it as it is ????

 

 

 

This is purely a question and not necessarily something for me, and even if it was it would be at least a year down the line when ive paid my car loan off and if I still have the Zed.

I would get it sprayed before wrapping as I have an OCD and I wouldnt be able to sleep at night knowing that they were a different colour underneath

Something I also want to know is that if you get say stone chips in vinyl does the original colour underneath show through as that would look sh!te

How about wrapping the front bumper twice then, just in case?

Hey buddy. I would defo get the body kit fitted by a pro and then take it to the wrapping guys. Alot of people go down the wrap route because they dont want the hassle of painting the body kit etc. It also means if they want to sell the car later on they have the option of taking the wrap off.... replacing the body kit with the original pannels and then sell the body kit on and it looks like new

 

I wish I had done this as I was screwed around big time by the bodyshop and would have saved myself alot of cash.

I actually havent had any issues at all mate and my zed is my daily car I suppose you could get the bumper wrapped twice if you were that worried about. But its defo more durable than nissan paint Umm depends on the style of vinyl you go for really mate and if you want your door sills done aswell. I have the full car wrapped and sills in matt orange and cost £1200

Like most vinyl's, the vinyl's we use for wrapping are specifically designed and manufactured for fitting to painted surface but providing the suface of the bodykit is perfectly smooth and glossy, I see no reason why we couldn't wrap the parts un-painted. I've just spoken to our supplier to confirm this and they said the same. I would however recommend doing wrapping a small section first just to test it.

 

As Jay said, when you come to sell the car, you can take the kit off, remove the wrap and sell it in perfect condition (providing you have had any bad encounters with nasty speed bumps!).

I wouldn't recommend wrapping the bumper twice as the thicker the vinyl becomes, the less conformable it is.

 

Basically when you conform vinyl into a recess, all it wants to do is return to it original shape/form. This is why we 'after heat' the vinyl so that it becomes more malleable and sort of gives it a new memory. It will aways have a slight tendency to want to return to it's original shape but providing the job is done properly, there will be enough glue behind the vinyl to stop it from popping out.

 

Now add another layer of vinyl on top and it's trying twice as hard to pull away from the surface

 

Stone chips have never really been much of a problem other than a few very rare cases. Our demo RS4 has done 40,000miles since we wrapped it and it has ONE stone chip (That took me quite a while to find!).

 

A lot of companies have their van bonnets wrapped in the same colour as the paint just so that it keeps their re-sale value higher by not having loads of stone chips.

Your looking at around £600 for fitting and respraying a full kit by a decent body shop... So why not got pay an extra £600 on top and get a completley new car

That's the whole point of a wrap! I.e. the car is a different colour underneath...otherwise there would be no point in wrapping it, cos it's already the colour you want it to be. You had too much of that butterbeer mate?

Ok next question is:

 

I like things to look right... Is there anything that will bug me about wrapping... does the wrapping go in all the nucks and crannies ie around the wing mirrors etc etc. I assume it wraps around bits like the bonnet.. does it look good or a bit shoddy ??

 

Whats the advanttages and dissadvantages ?

 

Can you wax it to get a good shine like paint ?

Hi Mate,

 

Sorry I've only just seen this. We can wrap the wing mirrors but we would wrap round just inside the mirror casings lip so there could possibly be a small amount of paint showing round the mirror itself. We wrap round the edges of every panel we cover so that from the outside, you cannot seen any of the original colour.

 

We will remove what we can from the car so that we can fit behind rubber seals etc but we are not mechanics and there are some area's that we will just have to cut round.

 

 

 

 

Re your question about making it more glossy... The 3M vinyl we use was specifically created for wrapping cars so it's supposed to replicate paint work. It does have a very nice glossy finish but it will never have the same mirror shine that paintwork has.

 

 

If you want a perfect colour change with that mirror shine and no original colour showing anywhere on the car, I advise that you have your car painted.

 

Advantages

 

- The ability to change your car's colour to pretty much any colour you want

- The ability to have your car wrapped in full digitally printed imagery

- Protect your cars paintwork from minor stone chips, scuffs and scratches. Increasing it's re-sale value.

- If you decide you want to go back to your cars original colour, we can just remove the vinyl without the cost of another re-spray and you paintwork will be in the same condition it was in when you wrapped the car (could be 5yrs time!)

 

Disadvantages

 

- It will not have the same mirror finish as paint, but if you're using a speciality film like carbon then that doesn't matter anyway!

- It will not be a complete colour change like a paint job. There may be a small areas where the original paint can still be seen (up close).

This is another reason i went for the matte finish.... as I loved the mirror reflection I had on my blade..... so decided to go the opposite for a wee change. I am not a massive fan of the gloss wraps as I would want that "mirror" finish. But if you go with matte or even pearl........ I think you would be pleased with the final result. I still think its the best thing I did to my zed as I was getting a little bored with it........ but It feels like a new car now (in a weird way)
