i have had my zed for a while now and only really bothered with a cat back and intake system, i wanted to improve the performace and wernt entirly sure what to do next, im not loaded and was hoping a few 100 quid a month/ save a bit if required to....i took it to my local performance car garage ( the only one thats about ) and he turned around and said "come back when you can afford a turbo kit boy" calling me boy as im 21 and he probly no's i dnt have 8 grand laying about.....any surgestions what i can do....in order of increasing power/ acceleration without loosing top end speed. i realice brake and handling are a must at some stage in the begging but just purly to the engine i need advice?

much appreciated

First of all I'd tell your 'performance garage mechanic' to feck off and then have a read through the mod section for different ideas. Don't be expecting too much without spending thousand though, personally I'd just get it looking and sounding perfect.

i would get some good tyres then maybe some good brake discs and pads if you want to faster round a track. the zed is the wrong car to go bhp hunting unless you have that 8k lying about the mechanic talks about.

as for the mechanics attitude i would make sure everyone i knew avoided that garage, pathetic attitude.

Lol how come every new member on here asks the same thing?

I honestly don't think you'll need anymore power unless you want to be a straight line racer. If you want a faster car then buy an evo or something. The thing with the zed is that u have to learn to admire the potential the car has not only in straight line but how it drives on corners. I still haven't been able yo exploit the cars full potential even on the track. So in all honesty, chill and explore all the mid range torque you have find corners to really feel the car. Don't just concentrate on how fast it is in a straight line, remember it weighs around 1.5 tonnes and not a lightweight wanna be rally car. Take it to a track and get a lesson in it and you'll soon realise thy car is more than fast enough.

Welcome by the way!

cheers guys! much aprreciated, i was planning on doin some bolt on mods before doing the remap, as i heard that it defeats the point in the remap if you carry on modifying ( one of the last things to do for example ) its a shitty intake system on it and was looking at a HKS racing suction, any good? plus the kinetix racing manifold, read up a few good things on that? and possibly clutch/flywheel. with regards to the brakes ect, they are a must as soon as, but i been looking at brake 2grand ect which is for starters out of my budget and just crazy.... same with coilovers, out of my price range to be honest untill i sell my other car ( which is taking ages ) but would like a little drop on her but nothing loads.

again appreciate the welcome guy :D

its not so much the gains u get, but more about how responsive the car becomes, how smooth the torque band becomes etc... you also take the limiter off the engine power or 1st to 3rd gear..

i think it basically has the same effect as the throttle controller, makes it alot more responsive but i think its unnecessary... dont really use my first and second gear alot, generally 3rd and 4th are my favourites

a few people have got it, i think PaulT has it, personally im saving for the cosworth intake. i think for the money you will put into the n/a engine you wont get much gains, probably better saving for a turbo for a few years. but defo go with either a plenum spacer for the intake manifold, exhaust, high flow cats, and a remap and you will defo feel a difference.

ye man you could be right and im just checking out some @*!# that just sounds the buissness. how about racing exhaust maifolds? or is there basically no point what so ever? if i do everything you say up there you think it would be running over 300bhp, im loving deep dish wheels, deeper the better but have not seen any nice ones for sale so any ideas for that would be helpfull also, where you guys from anyways?>

If you think the kinetix is a waste on n/a why bother with the Cosworth? Do a search on my350 & you will see how poor it performs on a N/A Z ;)

racing plenums make very little difference unless FI

and racing manifolds aren't worth the hassle. your looking at 12 hours easily to change them as they are a pig to get to. The cost far out ways the gains.

My headers took around 10hours to install, absolute bitch of a job & not something that will be done again. There are gains from them but unless you can get a good set for a silly price then don't bother.

Also, the Kinetix stuff seems OK for stock engines. I ran the V4 for a while & Anders is running the SSV with AFAIK no issue :)
