Thedancingmexican
Hay guys, I'm new to the forums and this my first post so if it's in the wrong section or I this has been covered elsewhere sorry. I have just brought 2007 350 GT in black and love it to pieces best car I have ever driven! But when I press the button for the boot the catch releases but the boot dosent "pop" up so I have to use two hands to open the boot. Is this normal?? And can you by updated gas struts so that I can make it pop up even if the two handed way is normal?? AND The model I have has the built in factory sat nav can u buy updated DVD's? Or how tricky is it to replace the sat nav with a touch screen jobby but still keepbthe factory look. Thanks guys
evilscorp
I sometimes have to push the boot opener twice as it does not always totaly unlock(pop) i think its the rubber springs that are the problem not the struts. Mabe add a wee bit more plastic to the end of one, may help but wouldnt know how to do it and make it look standard.
Wasso
I think the rubber springs you are on about are adjustable - just turn them in a clockwise/anti-clockwise direct I believe to adjust. The SatNav, don't even bother getting a new updated disk. I can't remember how much the dealer quoted but it made me retract very quickly!! UNABASHED
Few different remedies: you can replace the gas struts for more powerful ones you can regas them original struts to have a higher pressure you can try the penny mod which invoilves opening the rubber covered springs either side of the boot and putone or two pennys in to give it extra springiness when the boot is popped you can remove the ballast weight that is bolted onto the boot lid under the trim I removed the ballast weight and fixed one of my broken side springs and mine now works with just one press

evilscorp
my car only came with one but lucky for me the ppl on here are so nice someone had a spare semi broken one, which they kindly gave me so had to glue some plastic onto the bottom so it would stay in place, now i dare not touch it lol. UNABASHED
they are not adjustable are they? if you turn it clockwise or anticlockwise it just falls off??

Thedancingmexican
Thanks for all the suggestions! It would seem that my 350 only has one spring is there another good hearted sole with a spare that will part with it for a reasonable price? Or where can I buy a new one/new struts? Thedancingmexican
Where exactly do u put the 2p's in the rubber shoe where the spring is?
spursmaddave
Where exactly do u put the 2p's in the rubber shoe where the spring is? The Penny Trick - http://www.350z-uk.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=35&t=37034&hilit=penny+trick As long as the rubber boot stops come off ok you can just take the spring out and put a couple of pennies underneath it, there are pics on the thread. Dont go too mad straight away, especially if you have a spoiler cos you can cause damage! For me 2x1p each side works a treat but I guess it depends how fooked your springs are. Boot pops up nice now, It really annoyed me until I saw the thread on here
Lincolnbaggie
Where exactly do u put the 2p's in the rubber shoe where the spring is? You actually use 1p pieces but be careful - a lot of people have had the paint crack above because the spring is then sitting too high. Much better to get the struts regassed/uprated instead to do the job properly (having said that I've used the penny trick with no issues )
Wasso
I'm sure you can rotate the spring itself once released from the boot lid. It should adjust the ride height of the boot?? If not - then I'm totally wrong.... Nurrish might be able to confirm he's a boot specialist!!
Jed
had the same problem and never thought about it really except it been a pain in ass opening with 2 hands. Just read the thread n 5 mins and 4p later....Problem solved!!! Great idea!

I though they just stopped it banging you on the head once it was open. I have tried the penny trick but still no joy (mayb cos i only have one boot spring) so ill see if Zmanalex can provide me and go from there.
