bigbramble
Hey there, I rang today and asked for a quote starting August for my car which I am in the process of purchasing ('05 350Z roadster GT Pack) and my wifes car (Mitsubishi Grandis 7 seater 2005 2.4 petrol classic), with me as main driver on the 350, my wife as main driver on the Grandis. We both have a trade policy currently and are able to provide a letter stating we have not claimed on the insurance in over 5 years, not only that but the cars I have owned have ranged from Ford Focus to 650bhp Mazda RX7 etc. I was told I could not have a quote as I have not owned the Zed for a year? Down to my lack of 'experience' (obviously the 10+ performance cars that would run rings around the 350 don't count). Is this correct or can you quote me after all? Regards, Anthony. UNABASHED
I was told I wasn't allowed insurance at first due to lack of performance experience but Tim sorted it out for me
bigbramble
Shall I just ring back then or shall I wait for a reply from him?
UNABASHED
seems a bit odd that they wouldn not quote you based on lack of performance cars owned in the past, usually it is due to lack of RWD experience. I'd try call back and see if you have any joy with another person, if not wait until the thread is seen by CK and ask on here.

chrisjones6699
I was told the same thing when i tried to add my girlfriend to the policy. She hadn't had at least one year's experience driving the Zed.....?? Even the lady said " I know its daft, how can she have experience if she cant get insured"....ummmmm you said it sister! The icing on the cake was when i had to go into incredible detail about my line of work (Security consultant wasn't good enough) and then i was told i couldn't have a policy because they didn't know who would end up in my car!!!! Amazing!
maxi-glasgow
I don't understand all of this, I put my fiance on my policy the day I bought my zed and she has only ever owned an old Ford Escort, an old Rover 214 and a current 2003 1.2 Renault Clio and never got asked a single question about her car history so how can they possibly know if they don't have performance car experience? Zugara
Ask privilage insurance, they did me ok and my Mrs automatically got added at no extra cost and also business use at no extra cost.
CK@Chris Knott Insurance
Hi Sorry, been away on business. The difficulty is that RWD cars have really battered the insurers claims stats. The 350Z in particular has not performed well in terms of 350Z-UK members getting insurance from us so the insurers have imposed a rigid rule that there must be a year's experience of driving the 350Z before we can now quote. I'm sorry about this but it is only that the scheme be protected against its demise.
Gizmo-R
I think this issue was also present to myself at the time of getting an S2000 last year. Fortunately as I had a CTR for the previous 5 years before the S they made an exception and still beat everyone else! Changing to Zed was non issue either for me

They have given me a simply amazing quote so thanks for the tip... ...only 1 problem they don't allow any performance mods.
ATTAK Z
Hi.......... so the insurers have imposed a rigid rule that there must be a year's experience of driving the 350Z before we can now quote. So this the scenario .............. I can't get insurance from you cos of the rule above ........... so I go elsewhere - say Privilege ....... after one year I'm ready to insure again and Privilege send me a renewal letter offering a year's insurance for the same price as the year that's just gone, and I don't need to do anything - I'm covered (note I have over 9 years NCB) ...... you have records also so you advise me to check again with your company ...... if it was me I'd say 'up yours matey, I'm happy with my present insurer' Life's too short to ring round every year .......... I'd rather be out there in my car that's not good business is it ?

bigbramble
Heya Martin, No worries I was pretty sure the FD had sold when you made the offer anyway, just wanted to be sure. It's gone now though. I cant remember name of the brokers for the trade policy but we have always got a great deal from them, no one has ever been able to match it. I'll try to remember to ask when I ring the garage next. I'll have to get some of those spacers off you at some point, when I work out what size I need for my Rays to clear the arches fully. MGR
TBH I was shocked at how bad it is to insure the 350Z which in standard form I don't really consider a performance car. Its sort of fast hatch territory. It cost me more than my E46 M3 and also costs 40% more to insure than my other car which is considerably more valuable, much much more powerful, and no traction control It must be the type of person attracted to the 350Z represents a high risk of crashing the cars. Same thing happens to an extent with the M3s where a powerful (ish) car has depreciated to the point where anyone can buy one (maybe not run one but thats a different thing) and then end up crashing due to in experience at that power level. This seems to have been confirmed by what the insurance company has said in this thread by the claim ratio. I can also see the point of it being an entry point to RWD, another factor which may result in a large number of crashes. It is pretty much the only running cost I've come across that is high so its still not a bad package overall.
Neilp
im cheaper to insure my zed at 21 years old than a mini cooper s, 0 no claims and a crash at almost 5k im now 22 yrs old, 1 yrs no claims, still declairing a crash and im 1000 quid

No worries, I'll find someone else who's willing to insure me and my girlfriend and I'll be more than happy to give them 1k+ a year. If your company is doing that well that you don't need another customer, then fair enough! But I'm guessing that you could do with more custom so screw the nut and use a little common sense! 17yr old, zed as a first car, fair enough.... 29yr old, 5yrs NCB with a fair amount of driving and cars under the belt who's willing to trust their 25yr old partner (5yrs NCB) behind the wheel of their much loved zed.....seriously guys, come on! chrisjones6699
Oh yeah, also, if you're not willing to quote someone because you'd like to go into ridiculous detail about their job, you might want to start asking other questions that would actually matter, like health questions, criminal history etc! over
MWTech
no worries bramble, give me a shout whenever, email me if you wish and il blether with you there on the insurance side of things...im shocked at all this trouble i had just turned 23 when i got the 350z, stock car, 520miles a week commuting included. policy was with admiral and i only paid 580 something quid! i was quite suprised, as i was quoted 700 something to renew the policy on my civic ek9 that i sold beforehand. and when i had the small accident when sumone ran into the back of me at a junction, the car was taken away from my house for repair in a day or two following the accident, everything sorted out, and the bodyshop they had do the repair not only did a fantastic job but also gave me some AMG spec Merc as a courtesy car becuase i said id like "a like for like car"...... i was like ok!!!! the other cars on the list were bmw z4, porsche boxster or audi TT. it was a very luxurious 3-4 days courtesy experience! theres my input
bigbramble
I'll try Admiral then, I wonder if they allow any mods. If Sky insurance was just a wee bit cheaper I would just go with them.
SteveRS
Just tried to get a quote from these guys but for some reason they couldn't quote me because I have to be over the age of 30 Now here's my driving history which the nice lady tried to take into account and persuade them to take me on as a customer. 27 years old, home owner. Works vehicle: 9 years no claims 350z: currently 2 years no claims (kept in a very secure locked garage) Never had any accidents or convictions etc. Previous Vehicles: Honda Civic Type R Nissan 350z Mini Cooper S JCW VW Caddy Current Vehicles: VW Transporter Sportline Nissan 350z Unfortunately they've lost my business due to the fact you have to be 30 years old to get a quote. I always assumed once you were past 25 and with a good driving history you could get a quote no problem. I've gone with Sky again who managed to do me a good deal in the end
