evilscorp
Posted a couple weeks back about an accident i had and scratched my car pritty bad, wanted to try repair it myself here are some pics as you can see (if you seen the previous posts pics) the scratches are 95% gone (the biggest one didnt get totally filled with the primer) but when I went to use Halfords gunmetal grey that they mixed for me instore as they had no off the self stuff this is what i got! (yes i did try it on sum paper but only did a quick pass and it look similar). Still need to sand it down as i put three coats on,hopefully it will; 1.come off, 2.look less dark 3.get my money back! Not sure if i will bother trying to blend it in and just go direct to nissan for the correct paint.

Ah, I had this problem too. Fortunately though, they didn't have PPW in stock at all. Plus it's only 3 little scrapes lol

I think (and please correct me if I am wrong) that the imports only had one of the shades of GM, its the UK cars that have 2 but I would still be going back to halfords. You asked them for a specific shade of colour for a specific car, they didnt give you that and its going to take you extra work to get sorted now... AlexZ
To be honest mate even with the correct colour it wont look very good. Ive working in a body shop for 13 years and with met or pearl you always have to blend the adjcent panel for colour..Trying to do a small patch like your is never going to look right. I got a Blade silver touch up pen from Halfords and it was miles out. I got my money back and went to Nissan it was only £3 compared to Halfords £10. My advise would be get it done by a pro and pay the bill....sorry man.. Alexz
SunGodRA
for those that dont know - your vehicle paint code is etched on the VIN plate in the engine bay
geoff-r
Damn, I would never go to Halfrauds for mixed paint anyway, they are not specialists. Hope you manage to sort it mate.

They cant even get wipers right, feel sorry for you mate but i dont know how you thought the colour was close when you tested it on some paper as that is way off ! Its needs to go into a bodyshop to have it done right. Dont Nissan do spray cans ??? sorry im a Supra owner so i wont know, my girlfriend getting a 350 soon so its handy to know
tez162003
I agree with AlexZ Even with the correct paint, the colour would be out. but not only that, the painting skills look a tad weak. did you even blend the colour into the original paint? looks like you would just have a harsh straight edge to me. The 350z is not a cheap car, i expect this sort of repair on a ford escort not a 350z. Just get it to a bodyshop and fixed properly. otherwise you'd lose out later on when you sell the car as no one will want to buy a bodged 350z
Sarnie
I can't believe that anyone would think that spraying ANY car like this, would be a good idea and one that could be executed to provide a seamless finish.....

Why would you spend 10k on a car then going to Halfords, buy a 6.99 can of paint and do some spraying in your front garden lol
Beavis
Have to agree with all that is said above. This method of painting a car is never going to work
evilscorp
the reason there was a line was because i only sprayed over the scratches, didnt want to blend into good paint when the colour was way off, went back today and the woman said that they had made a mistake so she mixed up some wv2 (didnt have a WV2 G) and it looked very similar but due to fadeing i asked her to lighten it up,eventualy to a colour i thought was correct. When she went to fill up a can they had ran out :/ so she gave me it as a free touch up pen to test and said come back tues for a can and to say if the colour is right. Just tested the pen and it looks pritty good, going to sand down the test area 2moz to see how easy it is to blend. As for saying why would anyone try this themselfs, my question to you is why did man go to the moon? If you dont try things you will never better yourself, and will always think what if? Mabe i do make a hash of it at least i will know the £190 pro job is worth all that money, since ive only got a part time job due to the economic climate im happy ive got a car at all. Well it depends what type of job you wanted to do in the first place. If you said you had a few scratches on your car and attemped to spray it your self until you can get it sorted by a bodyshop i would of understood. Everyone on here love and cherish there cars so when a few of us saw that we were a little shocked thats all. Good luck in getting sorted though
UNABASHED
not sure if it was intenti0nal but this thread gave me a good laugh tonight I admire your determination and grit at trying to sort this out yourself, no matter how ridiculous and shambolic your attempt was! Bravo I say - bravo! Now get the yellow pages and start calling around local bodyshops to sort it out for you!
tez162003
to be fair, if you know what your doing and have good skill DIY can be done. But on a large flat panel like the 350z rear quarter, its a tough job! I did my scooby rear arch couple of years ago, as i was selling it and the arch was rusted, i got it all clean, meshed, fibreglassed, fillered smooth. then i blended in the paintwork stepping it into the OE paint. Machined it back afterwards, and considering where i did it (front garden) it came out bloddy well. but that was just a thin rear arch, and a M reg impreza..
