Stiff bonnet.

Hi All,

 

The Z 17 months old now and I Noticed recently the bonnet was stiff to lift up and had to push it down to close. When I'd got it closed I had to push it down at the top as well to line it back up, as it didn't sit flush.

 

I've lubed it with some WD and it seems better, but I've booked in with the Steeler tomorrow for it checked (I alway come over nervous and sweat on the way there)

 

Has anybody else had this with a Z ?

Had a couple of problems due to the cooling panel but apart from that mines 7 years old and doing fine

Sounds like your hinge sections may be a bit gunked up (that is assuming you havnt got bonnet lifters!) they can get a lot of dirt and crap down in them.

Sorry revive an old thread like this, but I have noticed a similar issue with mine, at the risk of sounding a bit dim, how do you go about cleaning out the before mentioned 'gunk'?

if its the hinge area then an old tooth brush, water and washing up liquid, dry and then a spray of WD40. if its the lock. same method. if you have bonnet dampers then wipe and spry with some WD40

A clean and a lub. should fix your issues, however new bonnet hinges in stock if required.

I'd get a load of degreaser and give the hinges a thorough coating of the stuff and let it soak in before cleaning it all off and if its really messy give it another coat and then smother it in lithium grease making sure you work it in to all moving parts. This should do the trick and free up the bonnet. The best of luck.
