03/06/2010 - First Mod!

Did my first mod to the car this morning - Stillen G3 long tube intakes  Think these are likely the first fitted in the country to a 370z.

Took longer than I expect, more involved and cutting the little bits of the OEM intakes away took a bit of patience. Will do a writeup at some point. Car doesnt seem that different, but does seem to have added a bit of extra growl to the OEM exhaust. Seems to pull a little stronger and rev a little quicker, but I could be imagining it. Need to hook up the OBD and see what real difference its made (AFR most noticably)

15/06/2010 - Stillen CBE

Time for more changes, this time the biggest let down of the 370z - the noise. Easily sorted with a CBE, in this case a Stillen number.

Decided to give a local outfit the chance to fit it as I fancied trying them out after rave reviews from various people I know. SJB Autotech in Basingstoke are VAG specialists, but Jim and his team love working on any nice car, and love the Zeds (350z/370z). They take great care in their work no matter which car it is on and at only £50/hr inc VAT, you cant go wrong down this way!

The results:

Unpacked and checked to make sure everything was still there after a few months in the loft!

In the car ready to be fitted...

I made a vid but will try and get another later. It was out the front of the house and didnt rev it enough to capture the roar!

Needless to say, the car sounds so much better now, nice deep growl like a Nismo on a 350z. Much much better :teeth:B)

i like the setup, looks very stealth. only thing i would say is its almost screaming for 2 snorkles right in front of them for direct flow, shame that would spoil the look of the front of the car.

they do seem well sheltered in there.

am i right in remembering that you have exhaust plans at some point? think the combination between the 2 will be very nice B)

Theres actually a supprising amount of room between them and the radiator, so loads of air flow coming up through there, it gets it from the same area as the OEM intakes really. I guess vents would give it even more air, but would make them very exposed. I know in the States a few people have put the usual carbon openings in the bumper, but more to the side so not to be directed at the intakes but give them more air. TBH I think they have more than enough cold air as they are and keeps it stealth as you say.

And yes, exhaust is ready to go on too. Trying to decide if I do it on axle stands myself or take it to the garage. I think I just need to get it booked in at TGM and get it done :teeth:

As I know you have the exhaust Chris, just try lifting it on your own on your back and noting where the new pipes will connect and getting access to the holding lugs. Tom at TGM found it was easier on mine to unscrew the lugs from the boot floor - fit them to the box and then rescrew in place with the box and its weight meant he had two helping him to do that. ;)

The Stillen back box is considerably heavier than the OEM box BTW. Which is starnge is that I found the Nismo back box for the 350 considerably lighter than the standard OEM 350 back box

For what Tom charges it is a no brainer, IMO.

Looks great Chris. Did you take a before pic of the air intakes?

Would be nice to see before and after pics of all the changes you make, as some are very OEM looking, it may be beneficial for those thinking of modding the 370 but unsure of the effects :)

I didnt unfortunately, as an exploritory mission turned into an actual fitting session and wasnt expecting to have major bits done in one go. Was just out in the evening looking at how to tackle it, which turned into having one side fitted before I thought to get the camera

Very nice Chris, my only suggestion would be to turn the hose clamps round on the stillen to tidy it up :)

Ta matey. The plan was to put the around the other way, but on the passenger side, the bolt sticks out too far if you rotate them to be on the bottom and foul either on the engine, or a wiring harness :surrender: Planning to move them around a bit as to hide them. They stick out more in the pic than in real life though.

Stillen exhaust now fitted B) (details on page 1)

Now the :D factor is really kicking in eh, especially with the syncro rev?

How many miles have you done, nope what I am really asking is have you got past 1200 miles to let it have its head :teeth:

Just crept over the 1200 mile mark last night on the way back from Reading with Ben in his Evo - he thinks the 370z is much quicker than the 350z, I managed to keep up with him this time

looks good chris, youve done more mods to this than the 350z

Learnt my lesson with the 350z. Left it too late to do many mods without having the OEM bits to put back on (as they were knackered), so doing it right this time
