Tractor
I was wondering if anyone has an idea where some good places are to practice drifting on tarmac. Not public roads obviously, im thinking of car parks or any open tarmac areas. I'm not one to draw attention to myself if i can help it so i dont want to go anywhere where the noise of skidding would upset anyone or make me look like a chavvy, mcdonalds car park loitering knob!. At trackdays you tend to get blackflagged for skidding and then you have the risk of hitting other cars and also getting in their way. It has been suggested to try 'car limits' in essex which is a driver training course, but i cant really afford their prices and im happy to try and teach myself. I did do a caterham drift course at brands last year which was great, i just want to try the zed out now! In magazines like evo and programmes like top gear etc, all they seem to do is slide cars around on tracks and airfields. Ive always fancied having a go. Now i have the car to have a go at it myself but i cant find the right place!! Has anyone else thought the same thing or found a good place?? Thanks! Ian
A lot of places hold drift sessions. I know there are a few places around here that hold sessions every month, I'll see if I can find the link - it had locations all over the UK

Jenni86
Tesco carpark
Chris`I
Car Limits hold cheaper Activity Days, where they lay out a course on the airfield apron and you can do what you like. Obviously they encourage you to drive properly, but also want you to learn the limits so dont mind drifting. In fact there is a company (forget who) that hire cars specifically for drifting and do attend the days too - http://www.carlimits.com/script/viewEve ... ldactivity . Get out with Andy if you can, the day only costs £40 too
Zugara
Tesco carpark Sainsburys is more suited to zed owners, a lot more upper class. Tesco = chavs.
jimbadman
Locally to Bristol we have a company called Launch motorsport and they do action and drift days on airfields for £50 a pop. Is there not something like that local to Kent? It's very controlled and a safe environment with plenty of run off. Good day aswell as people don't mind you just jumping in shotgun either. ARphotographs
would go see walshy at car limits, means its safe and under his instruction you'll have no end of fun. A lot of friends have gone to him and are in race series with him.

Tractor
Thanks for ell the replies and suggestions I'm not sure about the arena essex as any mistake and i'd be getting friendly with the concrete walls on the inside and outside! I'm looking into the car limits suggestion - sounds promising. When my wedding and harvest is out of the way i might book up. Was wondering if i could organise a group discount or something if anyone else was interested. Any takers?...... Any other suggestions are very welcome! Ebized
north weald do track days and you can drift to your hearts content. i did a taster day there last year for 40 quid Jeez - I recall the surface there is abrasive from days when I did autotesting - remember getting through a pair of virtually new pair of tyres doing the various handbrakes/360's and that was on a Beetle (a little modified to get on terms with Escort Mexico's and the like, you understand )
andlid
on a track day in Mondello you'll get blackflagged on normal trackday if drifting...
Tractor
What would be the ultimate is if a local member on here had his own airfield/carpark/open space that could be 'borrowed' for a few hours!!! (I wish)

(I wish) Well... do you leave close to any farmers? Some dudes over here in Ireland invited people down to do some playing on their tarmac Think some of them since have been closed. If you could find a motorclub with access to an old airport strip thats a good one too
