Search function

is it not possible to search by topic to allow direct access to require info. Only because this would reduce duplicate posts and should cut down on the work for mods

Hi, Im not sure I understand what you mean by "search by topic" ?

Perhaps he is referring to the fact that on the US forums, you have the option to search the title of each thread for a keyword as well as the whole post. You can then display the results (as you can here) as either posts or threads.

 

If so, that is quite a convenient way to quickly target information, I use it all the time

Our search function does search the title of the thread though...

 

Im confused. (I know it doesnt take much)...

if you can search the title ONLY it can greatly reduce the number of threads returned by the search to make it easier.

 

Try searching for Vortech on my 350Z by

i) Thread titles only, return as threads

ii) Entire Post, return as threads

iii) Entire post, return as posts

 

ii) and iii) return a LOT of info whereas i) is more targetted, we can do ii) and iii) here but not i)

 

Its not a biggy but I think that's the basis of what's being suggested

 

Edit-> In the search options we have

i) search title and text

ii) search text

 

but not search title ONLY

I am confused now, what I meant is say I want to lokk at Exhausts, which seems to be a popular topic, I can type that key word in then everythread that contains the word pops up. Hence saving time duplication and moing of threads

captint, I still dont quite unerstand what you are suggesting - our search function does allow you to search for evey thread containing specific words - for example "exhaust".

Clearly, I hadn't represented what captint was saying correctly but instead foisted my own preference into the thread.

 

So its all good, and just assume captint is mad and implement mine

No I think we are talking about the same thing, anyway even if not it seems to have created a good chain of thought
