350 giZ
Right, this got brought to my attention by a friend's Facebook status. This is such a shockingly funny story, yet sickening, all the same... Steven Day: "On way back home from West Sussex, got to the toll booth and handed over £1.49 as I lost a penny in the car.... (In fairness, its my fault and I only realised when I pulled up and was cursing like a goodun). The bloke told me that I had to find the penny so I told him I'd lost it and 'it was only a penny' so could he let me off?......Next thing I ... See Moreknow, a jobsworth lady officer gets called over (whilst the cars behind get horn happy), I tell her the situation and said I was ever so sorry but all I had was my bank card or £1.49 (not good enough)....so she lends me a penny right?.....Nope. After hunting every inch of my motor for a penny (you'd find one if you were hoovering wouldn't you?) and after offering her a 3 week old Locket that I'd found (surely worth more than a penny but in hind sight, probably not the best thing to have said), the crazy bitch shuts down every toll, calls in all the VOSA vehicles to drive in front of me and direct me over to their office with the red 'no entry' lights brightening up the front of the tunnel. At this point I'm shocked, I told her it'll cost her more in petrol for the vehicles to escort me and asked if she was taking the **** or if it was a wind up.......she said no and then in a sharp tone, told me that if I didn't follow the vehicles, I was breaking the law. They then block my path (in case I make a sharp get away) and tell me to drive over to their offices.... So there I am, little old me, driving alongside three VOSA Land Rovers with most of London looking extremely pi**ed off with me behind all their closed gates and once I'm clear, they gave me directions to a cash point in Dartford. (Are you f#*#*#* kidding me? was my response I think) Officer bloody knobrot then comes out and takes my reg number and at this point I'm keeping an eye out for Jeremy Beadle coming back from the dead...I ask him why he's taking my reg and asked if he had a penny he could give me, he chuckled and told me he'd been told to take my reg on the radio and he had no money and said I'm best to listen to ''her'' orders. I then reluctantly do a U-turn, drive into Dartford get my money and eventually make it back to the toll (and you can guess which effing toll booth I went to)..... I can't even remember the next 20 minutes of the journey or making it onto the A12 as I was just speechless. It is without a shadow of a doubt the most random, ridiculous and unbelievable thing that has ever happened and I sincerely hope that our country doesn't go into another financial meltdown due to the criminals that are a penny short at the Dartford Tunnel toll booth." 17 hours ago
rtbiscuit
Been there done that and shut down the bridge in to wales; all for 20p what made me laugh is you drive of the bridge at the end. so i drove on it 4 times, but only had to pay for 2 trips down side was the 19 mile back track to the nearest services and the 2 hour traffic jam i then got caught in trying to get back. on a plus side i did make sure i went back to the same booth where i then proceeded to give them the entire £4.80 i think it was in 1 pence pieces, very slowly; had to make sure i counted it out right and all they don't take bank cards at that bridge either, but funnily enough they would take stamps but i didn't have any of those either
MacW
I'd send that one to the papers, just to see if they can actually get an official response from the authorities over it

350 giZ
Weird, think id have been a bit wound up as well. have you powder coated those wheels yet? I couldn't believe it. Just seen my mate, tonight, still seems in a bit of shock and awe about it all, I think. No, I haven't, just yet. Alot of outgoings, at the moment. Spacers should be on delivery now from Andy. Then they'll be going in to get powdercoated! Will post the pics up when its done. Really thinking about some Eibach's now....
spursmaddave
My commute takes me through the Dartford crossing, I have a tag which tells you when funds are low but I once forgot and pulled up at the Toll with nothing on the Tag. I fished around in the car and only had about £1.30 very nice lady just chucked it all in and made it upto £1.50 not sure if it was because I have a Tag and obviously am a commuter or just my good looks and charm but I had no problem. maz0
What I don't understand is why he didn't walk to the car behind him and ask for a penny? Obviously the employee's wouldn't give it, cos their jobsworths, but I've been helped a few times by members of public

350 giZ
I know, I'm not quite sure why, either. He didn't mention much about it to me, lastnight. By the sounds of it, he was treated like a terror suspect. So, probably wasn't given much of a chance to even ask! I'm sure that all the cars piled up behind were willingly throwing coppers out their windows.

I've actually been let off 10p on the Severn Bridge before and to top it off when I chucked it in the change bin before there was a couple of extra quid in the returns box, jackpot
