cerealuk
I currently have the standard bose head unit with the bluetooth handsfree kit.. just wondering what the situation is if I change the head unit, do I lose the handsfree and how easy is it to keep the steering wheel controls working ? Bradders
Yup you loose the handsfree, as the BT adaptor works with the factory head and the handsfree dialling is in there too. There are ways to get the steering controls to work with another headunit but my understanding is that it is tricky and expensive Bradders. helimeddaz
Hi, As with all thinng, it's better let someone who knows what they're about work on your Z. I can't blame you for wanting to get rid of the Bose unit. Mine lasted 3 months. It's ok I suppose, but if you want some punch to your sounds then junk it. A steering control module for a new head unit is no big issue, most of the main players are catered for (Alpine, Pioneer, Kenwood). About £60 to £80. The OEM speakers are ok (Ish), But no great shakes. Many good ones available. Look at some of the threads on hear. So many variations. The search is a good tool. I went with a Doulble din adaptor and an Alpine flip-out head unit, Amps and Sub. Then Hertz Hi-Energy speakers (Components front and 2 Way rear). Just to demonstrate a good Sub will move about 15x more air than the bose one. Hope this helps...
